If you absolutely need one the vendors refurbishing them charge a $100 refundable core charge. Obviously there would be no core returned.

Thanks greazzer, that is true. I'm hoping to find a rebuildable core, I can do the service myself.

We will see what happens

You're very welcome. I have not seen that type of vacuum pump in a while, and my local yards are all but no W123s lately, maybe one or two per year or some years none at all.

About 10 - 15 years ago I could do a tour of the Pull-a-Parts in Georgia and South Carolina in an incredibly long day, leaving the house at 5 am and back home by 8. I would visit four yards and have my pick of parts from at least a dozen or more W123s. Now, about zip.

vacuum pump for early W123 240D

I can also pull up torque specs, installation steps and recommended service intervals for your particular year.
Even On the W123 240D (and other early Mercedes diesels with the OM 615/OM 616/OM 617 engines) the engine-driven vacuum pump serves several key functions, If you’re replacing the vacuum pump, here are important considerations:
Correct part number and configuration: Many sources list the genuine part as e.g. Mercedes part number 000 230 1365 (single-port style) for the W123 diesels. Single-port vs dual-port version: One listing mentions the “single port” version vs a “dual port” pump (for early vs later) and that you have to match the mount and vacuum-port orientation
