Do you need the complete assembly or just the lens ??

Benz does not sell just the lens [ there is a TSB on this , if you need it ], but if you need lens only, I have found a place that has them

http://www.capitolwest.com/mercedes_exterior_accessories.htm

You may also change the 94/95 lens only over to E code from the
same place..
I have done so, but the improvement is slight as 94/95 124s have H4s [9003s] already with a glass lens [ But it is still DOT/Bosch US version.]
Recommend Bosch... [ as the stock DOT is]
Anyone interestred in the TSB/ and/or further info on this [94/95 ONLY]. feel free to email me..

Thumbs up

Thanks so much for the replies!

Authur, I need just the lense itself. Wow, the $76 looks like a deal compared to the $250 for the assembly.

A rock chipped it and then it proceeded to crack from the chip. The lense appears to be glass the way it spiders, like a windshied would with a chip.

Next question: How do I remove the old lense from the assembly. Do I gently pull up on the two plastic clips at the top of the assembly? Should I remove the assembly from the car first? It looks like the side marker will have to come out first either way?

Oh ya, congrats on your upcoming 1000th post. Many are greatful.

I love this site!

John

It is best to remove the assembly cuz there is a hidden phillips screw from the back side. The 4 plastic hold downs just reguire a gentle flat blade to relieve the lens housing [ which will come w/new lens w/gasket]
Pretty straight-foward
The side lens has a lever that you can just pop to the off position from the inside.

I would take your DOT lens Bosch part# of your old one and call them at the toll free # to be sure of a match.
They are very helpful and know Benz lens info/codes.
I needed both due to road rash , so went w/E lens.

Thanks, straight-foward indeed. The only trick is that first you have to take the corner light out. There is a little tab or tung just behind the light that you push over to release the corner light.

Warning: The later USA lights used on 1994/95 E-class cars have the lenses glued to the headlight assembly. If yours are like this, you probably will not be able to remove the lens! If you can swap the lens, that would be the easiest & cheapest route. There are little plastic tabs at the top & bottom that the lens snaps on to. You carefully pry up on these and the lens just pops off (if it's not glued.) You will need to remove the whole headlight assembly to do this - it's not hard. Just be careful not to break the spring tab on the marker light, they are fragile.

If you can't get the old lens off, and you must buy a new headlamp, I'd recommend just buying a set of new Euro lights. I have a pair for sale (1994/95 style) with one extra spare lens for $300, includes the connector, bulbs, and instructions. Drop me an email at "rc51@cableone.net" if you're interested. Most places want $400-$500 for a new set. Arthur is correct, the E-code lights are not as dramatic an improvement over the 94/95 DOT lights... but they ARE still a bit better, and have that nice vertical cutoff which I think the DOT's still do not have. The difference over the old 86-93 lights (with the horrid 9004 bulb) is positively astounding.

Best regards,

Are the Depo lights $250 for 1986-93 style, or 94/95? Usually the later model lights are more expensive. Also, where do you buy the Depos for $250, and how much is shipping? PUMA charges $25 for UPS Ground across the country, less if you live near the East coast.

BTW - skip the blue bulbs, they reduce light output and are for appearance only (to look like Xenon lights).

Depo follow up

purchased through performance products, for 94-95
no offence , but in my case with the fogs on, you do not even require the high beams on, the output is excellent with the blues
i am not sure if your comment is based on experince with the bulbs but the product lives up to its reputation as a premium bulb
Made in Germany as well. Osram is the parent of Sylvania

Hmmm, interesting. I didn't know Performance Products was selling cheap versions now. Don't forget the bulbs will add ~$20-50 to the cost of the lights.

As to the bulbs, I agree the Sylvania/Osram is a good mfr. However all mfr's are making some type of bulb that is lousy (blue coating) because that's what the market demands, due to ignorance, or a desire to look like HID's. Some of the fancy bulbs actually are good but none of them will have a blue coating or produce "blue" light. Read all about it here in detail:

bulbs

thanks for the info link
aside from the phony blue bulbs, the good section is not biased towards the blue bulbs from the reputable manufactures

Personally i would not not say i get a beam of blue light and the result is not even close to the xenon hid ouput
but it is better than the original bulb it replaced and for myself
that is satisfactory.
at $17 each canadian the premium was about $5 each cad over the oem bulb
as far as lumen mesurement, the light is better on a dark patch of road and for me that is what counts
