1995 SL Steering Wheel

Black Leather in great condition MB# 140 460 4603
Sell for $55 shipped to the US

No air bag. Great to use as a core to get a custom wood/leather wheel or special color. Check out http://www.american-stitches.com/amstitches/Pages/index2.html

I have had work done there and it is first rate.
This is not an ad for them and I am not related to them in anyway.

I might be interested in the wheel, do you have any pictures? I'd like to see the condition of the leather, as mine has some minor cracking, and fading.

Most all MB steering wheels interchange up to 1999. MB changed the mounting in 2000 and I don't think those will work. If you get a "bare" wheel, the squibb (rear contact ring with 4 brass electrical traces) may need to be purchased to fit the wheel doesn't include one, and your old squibb won't fit. The biggest problem is locating an airbag, they're almost impossible to find under ~$200 and many places will NOT ship them. UPS, FedEx, USPS, etc consider them "explosive devices" and there is a huge fine if you are caught shipping without proper markings (something like $50k). Some yards can ship them but S&H will be high. Folks selling airbags on eBay are taking a huge risk, IMO, as I bet they're not authorized to ship properly - requires special certification (which most yards don't bother getting, they just won't ship them).

FWIW, I put a 1996 W210 wheel on my older W124, worked great but I needed to use a newer squibb (wheel didn't come with one). I'm about to put a 1998 C280 wheel on my other 124, this one came with a squibb that would have worked fine, but was damaged so I needed to buy one (NOT cheap, mind you!). I'll be posting photos & details of the wheel swap when I'm done. $55 is a great deal but good luck airbag shopping (most all 1992-99 airbags will work). And believe it or not, "squibb" is the actual Mercedes term for that contact ring, I found it in the manuals somewhere - thought my buddy at the dealer was pulling my leg when he told me the techs called it that!

Here's a shot of the 210 wheel in my blue car:

Thanks for the info, but I was selling it as a replacement or a core for someone that has this wheel on their MB. As far as I know the wheel is complete minus the airbag which you can get locally at a delaer of yard if needed.

I'm looking for just a replacement wheel as the leather is pretty worn on mine. How good is the leather?

The leather is very nice, not new but still has all of the grain.
Send me your email to cam69ss@yahoo.com and I can send some pics.

My father and I are building a 55 Stude Rod, 638 CI BBC engine

Alon,
Thanks for the nice words and posting a pic for me.
How do we go about posting pictures on this site?
I guess I should do a search first, but I figured I would ask.
THanks,
Dan
