diesel switch over in the 71 280sel
 

so i have a 71 280sel with the straight 6 ...motors blown, everything else is great (when grandfather, the original owner, gives car to grandson thats what happens..) anyway a good friend/mechanic wants to drop a diesel in this beauty....that's what the guy did in Hondorus for a long time switching out gas for diesel in buses...his love is mercedes so he's good to do it...just wondering what size engine...300d would be strong enough with the turbo...i can get an 85 turbo diesel thats been wrecked but has great low miles trans motor and turbo for about 600 or 700 hundred.....anyone?
i also just picked up a nice low mile 1981 300d to add to the 73 280sel 4.5L
and the motorless 71 280sel
also, what's with the confusion with the 73 classification of body style?'is it a 108?
why do people always say 72 was the last year of this body style?
