WTB 400E Engine (hehehe)

Major project time folks!
I am looking to do an engine swap and would like a V8 from a 400E or E420(if that can work as well) does anyone one know where else I should look? What else do I need to make such an endeavour work properly?

whats up..

I have seen some M119 5-liter engines on ebay from time to time. I have seen them for around $3500-4000 I think. Maybe a little better than a 400e? Perhaps a pseudo-500e?

Thanks for the help gentlemen...

The 400E is the only reasonable swap, as contrary to popular belief the 500 cannot just be dropped in,, the whole front end of the chassis was designed aruond the engine for the limited production 500E Hot Rod developped joinly by MB and Porsche....I will call the ebay seller tomorrow..

keep the info coming people

My friend has a 1994 E420 with 50,000 miles on it. It got hit. The engine and driveline is there. The car is located in Arizona. He wants $4,500 USD for the engine and computers, etc, and then another 1000 for the tranny if you are interested you can email me. It starts right up, great shape.

4.2 VS 5.0 same external dimensions

There no external difference between the 4.2 and the 5.0 litre motors. Just different bore/stroke. A V8 will NOT (I'm all most positive) go into your 6 cylinder car. That's the hurdle AMG had to overcome and was the blueprint for MB and the V8 400/500 E class cars. That's where the differences lie. I have a 400E and a 500E. I can swap the two powerplants and indeed drive trains out from the one car to the other.(But who the hell would want to do such a moronic thing!.....Well if the 500 got totalled for instance then maybe...Naaah it'd have to be crushed to hell otherwise I'd probably try to rebuild). Anyways, I think that the 5litre from the 500SEL/S500,500SL/SL500 and or the 500E/E500 will fit into a similiar V8 124/210(early E420 210 cars used the Old M119 motor, changed when they went E430)bodied car 400E/E420, 400SE-SEL/S420. Check it out

Thanks everyone for the help...but yeah my dreams of owning an m119 are crushed for now ...I would need basically the whole front end of a 400E or 500E to make it work at all. The only thing that could work well is an m104 and then a turbo on that stronger DOHC engine.....anyone know of a line on a good M104? Other than that, I guess I'll have to start saving my pennies for the W211 E55.....mmmmmm...horsepower!!!

I have an article where renntech put the 500SL engine in a 400E, they had to modify the transmission tunnel. Your car is late model though right???

I think Alain had a C36 engine for sale. It's the 268HP DOHC M104, so it should just drop in, and change out the engine wiring harness, and A/C hoses & your W124 A/C pump, and a C36 computer.

Yeah,,, I still have a 95 C36 engine for sale.
Bought it last summer to put into my 190 racecar,,,,then my plans changed when I started a new street-toy project & my kid came home with about a 7k dental bill .

It's basically a longblock with the intake & exhaust manifolds from a crashed 95 C36 with 20 k miles on it.

I've had the pan off & verified the stroke & condition of the engine. (clean as a new one inside)

I'm asking 3k plus shipping but will consider "reasonable" offers.
