WANTED - EVO-II flares
 

I'm now preparing my 190 for the mid-priced sedan/wagon class of the 2004 One Lap of America and need larger wheels tires fitted to compete. I will be using 275/40-17 tires on 9.5" wheels so I'm looking for some EVO-II flares or will have to make my own and that takes time. Anyone out there have a set of just the flares for sale or borrow (rent) that more flares could be made from?
Am willing to pay a deposit for the rent and shipping so that a 'glass shop can make molds for more flares.

I will be using the evo I fender flairs on my 190E as soon as I can get my hands on a set from Germany. I would be willing to work with you in getting some molds made as there could be more WALLS in my future, hehehe. ;)

LOL, you should keep the originals and make some copies for your own benifit. I like working with fiberglass better than polyurethane, its so hard to fix compaired to fiberglass. I am not sure what your flares will be made out of though.

Jim, don't say that ugly word...WALLS, as you never know when they may appear. Don't even think about them!
Don't think my wheels and tires would fit inside Evo I flares and may also use 315s on 11" wheels on the rear. Will probably continue with the plan we spoke of the other day.

Austin, as parts get more expensive from Germany then good copies of all the parts makes sense and quicker to obtain. Wonder how many kits here would sell in the future if they were available here as molds are not cheap to make up.

Very True, the dollar is down 32% since this time last year versus the Euro.

Its a shame. But good copies would defineately be nice.

The Euro is hurting us...
 

AND my wife is over there right now for one-two months tending to her parents and I'm here bacheloring it with my cars as company...tough life!! Hope to get lots accomplished though
Sure hope she doesn't spend much unless it's for my car parts!

I can imagine. The euro when I was there was the same as it is now, but Start of school this year it was 1.14 USD to 1 euro now its 1.26....UGH.

I hope everything works out well with your wife tending to her relitives.

The Evo flares are elementary (relatively speaking). With 275s on 9.5" rims, I'd be more concerned about the clearance to the inner wheelhouse at all 4 corners. The Evos (both I and II) had all 4 corners tubbed to allow for 10" x 19" racing rims & rubber.

Thanks for the warning but since I'll be using spacer adapters, machined to the proper offset, I can keep away form the inner
wheel wells. Don' plan on running as much camber as the DTM cars as this will be driven on the street for 5700 some odd miles in the 2004 OLOA and at the track events. Rear will be kept to about 1.5-1.75 degrees with the front at 1.5. Will be doing some events beforehand to check and decide what to run.
Didn't know the EVO I & II had the same allowance for tires in the arches. With time parameters involved will just make mine from steel and weld them on, probably uglier but it is a race car, who cares if functional!

steel vs plastic
 

Toby, just kiddin' bout the w__ls ! ! ! steel is better way ta go for me cuz the plastic parts keep falling off my car, hehehe. I M lookin' into motorcycle fenders as well since they seem ta offer more variety in the way of style and size. Since you haf ta do sum cutting/welding in any event, why not make it out of steel. You could rivet them on also. Alot of nascar stuffs upon close inspection is riveted togetha ( TERMINATOR STYLE ) ya kno :cool:

The NASCAR stuff can be riveted on as there is one hell of a strong chassis under it, something we don't have! The rear fender wells strenghten the car a lot so would rather weld it all back in. I'll be cutting the outer and inner fender pieces off and need wells back in to keep the trunk dry. May not do full beads but many tack welds and then use seam sealer on top of that to keep it dry. Can't wait to start cutting it apart!

One done, three to go
 

The left front is all cut and trimmed ready to weld the flare on. May look better than I thought but still uglier than some factory flares. Didn't take as long as I thought but will wait until the wheels and tires arrive to check all clearances before the welding.
Hate to go so far and then screw up!!

The bottom line is now I'm no longer looking for Evo flares as I have my own. As they say 'steel is real'!!

once you have the wheels/tires, it would be a good idea ta determine the clearence under max suspension load. then set your clearence around your flairs for it. dont want ta get on the track and experience the big rub-a-dub :eek: when you weld them in place, go for the continuous bead fillet weld. I have a welder here that automatically feeds the wire through when you squeeze the trigger. with a little practice, weld becomes art. best part is they can be ground down smooth afterward :) sounds like your off to a great start, GOOD LUCK all the way with all five ! ! !
