WTB 126 speedo pointer

I painted the gauge pointers of the SDL. I left the gauges on a table to let the paint dry. My 3-year old got to the gauges, badabing badaboom, I need a new pointer for the speedo. I believe it pulls off the gauge with pliers.

Thanks,
Sixto

When you painted, did you remove the needles or just put a piece of paper or something along those lines between the needle and the face? What about the round piece that it turns on? Did you just make sure to be real careful or what?
Thanks
David

There's a considerable gap between the pointer and the gauge face so it's easy to get paper under the pointer. In fact there's so much of a gap that you don't really need to mask the gauge face. It's the posts of the oil pressure gauge and and economy gauge that you have to mask.

The pointers are separate from the caps. The pointer is an angle section so it doesn't touch the cap except at the very center. A steady hand and a small brush will keep paint away from the caps.

Don't forget to clean the gauge cluster bulbs while you have the gauge cluster out. I even used silver paint on the casing around the gauge cluster illumination bulbs to get more light on prism.

Did the silver paint make much, if any difference?

Sorry, I don't have any pointers for you. If you e-mail Jim Harris I'm sure he has one and he's a good guy to deal with. I've gotten tons of w116 parts from him and I'm pretty sure he also has a couple w126 parts cars. Let me know if you want his e-mail address.
Thanks
David

I haven't put the cluster back in the car so I don't know if the silver paint will help. I cleaned everything I could reach including the contacts of the dimmer so I won't be able to attribute improvement to any one thing.

I'm in touch with Jim. Thanks.
