Need Transmission for 300D!
I'm new to this Forum, but I was hoping maybe one of you(Or several) could help me. I have a 300D mercedes that I bought from my grandpa several years ago. It's the 123 vin series.
The transmission is slipping and the fluid just... disappears, I guess. Haven't found where it's going yet but haven't really had time to look. I figured I need another transmission, so ANYone know where I might find a good transmission?? I found a rebuilt one from http://www.europeantransmissions.com that I "assume" will fit. They want around $1250 for it, but I really can't afford that anytime soon. Anyone know if another model's tranny will interchange?? Also, Would there be Any point at all in putting in a Used transmission?? Or do they all start having trouble around 200,000 miles? ![]() Any help you guys could give me would be great! And by the way, I already tried changing the fluid/filter, and there were Some metal filings but not much at all really. Could it be just some simple thing to fix?? Maybe a band adjustment? Thanks!! |

I just put a new trans in my 115 300D for $1100 inc. frieght. I did the installation, only took about 4 hrs. The best price I got for installation from the local tranny shops was $275. I've spent a more enjoyable 4 hrs. but it wasn't all that difficult.
Try www.adsitco.com, or www.silverstarrecycling.com, or www.preformanceproducts.com. You can bargin with silverstar. Converters are about $200 extra. |

I've been agonizing with a similiar problem for about two years and you'll find a wealth of information on the subject in the forum archives. I recommend that you spend the time to make several searches and you'll find that many have faced the same problem.
For information, the shop time for removing and reinstalling the transmission ranges from 4 to 6 hours. In the archives, you'll find a number of recommendations to use the Mercedes dealer for purchasing a rebuilt transmission. That route will certainly make sure that OEM parts are used, along with the latest improvements from Mercedes, but you have to be prepared to pay top dollar. In the alternative, you might take a look at www.mercedesdismantlers.com and www.peterschmid.com. I sorta favored "Mercedes Dismantlers" and have made a couple of posts on the "Shop Forum" asking for feedback information from anyone who has used one of their rebuilt trannys, but never received a reply. Maybe you'd like to make a "post" asking the question. I hope this helps. |
