WTB sportline parts

i'm back on a handling kick [again].

i'm after sway bars, sportline bushings, etc.

oem is the preference, as are NEW items. i would consider good used pieces.

ADVICE wanted please.

i'd like to change the springs, but my bilstein heavy duty's are only about 18-20 months old.

neil, suiginami, austin, gsxr any thoughts?

thanks

peter

Do the sway bars first. Get current pricing and decide if you want the regular Sportline (27.5mm & 16.5mm), or the "plus" setup which costs almost twice as much (28.5mm & 18.0mm).

Second, if you are still on stock wheels & tires, I would get 16x7.0 at a minimum (from a W202/203/208/210 chassis). This makes a HUGE improvement in cornering performance, IMO, with no loss in comfort.

Next up are springs. The fresh HD's should work fine with Sportline springs. This will make the ride noticeably harsher. You'll need to rent the proper compressor to change springs yourself. Resist the urge to "slam" the car, you want about a 1.0-inch drop for the street, unless you live in fairy-tale land with zero potholes, speed bumps, cement curb stops, and drainage ditches at parking lot & driveway entrances.

Last would be the control arm bushings, and rear subframe bushings, unless your current bushings are shot - then do these sooner. Neither is a DIY job unless you have the special tools and/or a shop press & a lot of ingenuity.

Update: Recent price increases from Mercedes have jacked up the cost of the factory sway bars. Current pricing is approximately:

$275 - Sportline kit
$400 - Sportline "Plus" kit, limo+500E bar

The standard Sportline kit used to be closer to $200. Ouch...
