Looking for a replacement engine on my 1984 300TD. Turbo must be included.

Just an FYI, a 300TD is a station wagon, which has a slightly different engine than a 300D sedan. You might want to clarify which model you have.

The 300TD (Wagon) engine drives a pump for the hydropnumatic self leveling rear suspension. The head is different as it has the pump drive. The bottom end is the same, but the head is different. Used 300TD engines are very hard to find. 300D engines are not so hard to find. I think 82 through 84 engines will be exactly the same as your 84. 85 engine may have some sllight differences but should work. Not sure about 81 (can't remember what year was the first turbodiesel).

was made from '82 thru '85. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Iam running a '79 617.950 from a w116 300SD in my '83 300D. I bought the car like that and didn't notice the swap until 6mos later. It runs strong and only leaks oil from the turbo, the rest of the engine is dry and clean. The only difference that I've been able to find is the lack of an EGR. It never had one. The manifolds do not even have ports for an EGR. The lack of an EGR cuts down on vacuum hoses and sundry emission devices....
My only problem is that I have no clue how many miles are on this engine, the chassis has traveled 189,000 miles but the engine??? When Iam asked I say that the motor has 25 years on it...
