1990 300SE need tire help
 

Im going to order some tires from the tirerack and would like some advice on what to get, i dont want to spend a whole lot 40 to 75 apiece and i want them to ride good in and last also to allow me to move around in the snow. What would you buy?

I always recommened Michelins, and cant say that about any other brand I have had. I personally have NEVER had one fail, and I have had lots of tires and drive hundred of thousands of miles. I am sure somebody has had a failure, but I like my experience. Sometimes they are a little more, but you get superior quality, they are over-built just like with your Mercedes.

Don't take the advice of three or four stiffs who post here. None of us has enough experience with all of the various tire manufacturers and models.
Check out all the performance graphs of all the tires that are available on tire rack. There are quite a bit of reviews on there as well.

I did that and purchased a set of Michelin Hydroedge. I'm also a Michelin fan, even though the price is high. I have serious doubts that the cheaper tires can maintain proper roundness so that the M/B suspension does not feel the out of round condition.

BTW, I purchased the Michelins from my Indy in 215-65-15 for a total of $410. out the door after a $50. Michelin rebate. The tires are warranted for 80K miles and I have no doubt that I'll get that. Cheaper tires may not go this distance.

Only tire I have ever owned that developed a 'lump' was a michelin. :rolleyes:

I recommend Bridgestone Turanza. Cheaper, and is a better tire in my MB (4 cars, 200K miles) experience.

It is what I have on my SE, after 6 years of Michelin. Much better in every way, including price.

If you don't want to take my recommendation, listen to what the Tirerack professional says.

while the Energy MXV4 Plus is very popular amongst MB owners ... our testing has proven the Turanza LS can beat the MXV4 in everyway and it costs less

That's curious.

The ratings on Tire Rack clearly show the Michelin Hydroedge to be a better tire than the Turanza S in just about every category.

Additionally, the customers who have purchased the Hydroedge are clearly more confident that they would purchase the same tire again.

Maybe the ratings don't mean anything and they are there just for show since the Tire Rack professional has ignored them.

Maybe Tire Rack ought to rethink their recommedations????

I bought BFGoodrich Traction TA's and I live here in Illinois. They are great in the rain, snow and a good performance tire. I use these as my late fall to early spring wheel/tire combo and am very happy with them. I bought my from the Tirerack from Wes(ext 648). I have had the Michellen MXV4, Dunlop D60 A2, and the Yokos AVS DB's and by far the BFG's are the best. I run a 205/60/15 for winter then summer I run a 225/40/18 Pirelli Pzero Nero m/s
