Help with AMG wheels/tires specs

Does anbody know...
(1) What these wheels are called? I know they are AMGs but what style is it?
(2) What size would fit a W123 280E? Is that a 15 or 16 in the pic?
(3) What the offsets are for a W123 280E?
(4) What size tires they should be equipped with?
(5) Is the vehicle in the pic lowered? Looks like it to me.
(6) Any documentation on this AMG model out there?
(7) Also looking for information on the airdam/chin/spoilers/skirts...

Planning on starting another project....

Any help is appreciated....

Those wheels are commonly referred to as Pentas but officially were just labelled as Spoked wheels. Ronal made a replica wheel in various sizes.

The AMG wheels came in 15x7 E15 and 16x8 E11 for the 107, 116, 123 and 126. Tyres originally used on the 16 inch wheels were 225/50-16. I am not sure of the tyre choice for the 15 inch wheels.

http://www.mercedes-damien.com/ may have some more details you are looking for.

I do know the wheels come up for sale on eBay occasionally but the other body kit parts are harder to find.

Thanks for the link. Very interesting...

<<I do know the wheels come up for sale on eBay occasionally but the other body kit parts are harder to find.>>

I thought as much. Looks like this is gonna be one tough project from the get go....

Have you seen this?

How come the 15s and 16s recommended have the same profile and width? Wouldn't that result in a larger overall diameter if you go 16s? Or haven't they realized that yet then?

Thanks again....

I had not seen that link before and it is always good to find AMG information. Original AMG brochures can sell for over USD 100 on eBay

Not only do the 15 and 16 inch wheels have different rolling diameter but also notice the recommended staggered set-up where the diameters are different between front and back.

That's funny. Carlsson just recently emailed me regarding wheel applications for my W124.036 and were recommending that I use 235/40 and 265/35 f/r on the same 8.5x18" style 1/5 wheel.

Can you actually do that?

Btw, here is a link for the rest of the AMG W123 Catalog

There would be no problem using different size tyres on the same size wheels, just as in the AMG brochure you linked. The tyre sizes you note have effectively the same diameter.

I wasn't pertaining to the overall diameters which is approx. 25.4 in vs 25.3 in. I was more concerned with the width. The 235/40s will be 9.25 inches wide while the 265/35 will be 10.43 inches wide. These were recommended by Carlsson for an 8.5 in wide wheel. The rear tire will be almost two inches wider than the wheel. I always though you weren't supposed to exceed a difference of 1.5 inches between tires and wheels widths.

When I recently bought new tyres, the manufacturer provided a minimum, maximum and optimum wheel width for each tyre size. This information was available on the web when I last looked.

I prefer the look of these wheels...

Does anyone know the brand and dimensions to make them fit on the W123?

Here's a partial close-up of the rear. It kind of appears that the offsets may be different between the front and rear.

They are AMG 3-piece disc wheels very similar to the Monoblocks (mono referring to one piece). I think they came in the same sizes as the Pentas as well as a few others. I have 16x7.5 ET17 Monoblocks on my W116 and these would also fit your W123.

Found the owner and recieved an e-mail stating they are indeed 3-piece AMG OZ wheels. 17" with ET-17 and 225/45/R17 tires on the front and ET-18 and 255/40/R17 tires on the rear. Now just to find a place to get them.

how'd it go?

So - did you ever find a set of those 3-pc wheels? If so, how much?

I thought the two-different sizes approach was uneccessary, but I guess some people still do it. It'd be nice to be able to rotate an expensive set of tires, wouldn't you think? Your call.

As for the AMG catalog, have you been in touch with AMG? They may have some old stock they're willing to part with, or at least be able to point you in the right direction. I know I've seen some of the center console boxes and wood shift knobs for sale on the net (maybe not AMG products, but lookalikes anyway).

Does AMG still do interiors?

IMHO, though, I thought the exterior treatment of the AMGs in the pictures was positively wretched - I can't beleive I actually thought that look was cool back then. The body-color wheels and the blacked out trim looks so hopelessly Wal-Mart by todays standards.

Still, the overall design of the penta wheel isn't bad. I'm considering a set of new wheels for my 123 also. I was surprised to learn that a 16" wheel fits into the wells of a 123.

Let us know what you found.
