Mille Miglia Type 15 / ATP Type 8

I have a 1984 280SEL (4spd auto) with the original 14" bundt-cake rims. I have settled on the two rims (as far as looks go) above but since the ATP Type 8 comes in a 16", I'd like your opinion on which to buy and a recommendation for an approriate size/manufacture of tire. I like the idea of having a larger/wider more agressive stance for tires. I've heard that the 16" wheel will handle better and ride nicer? What are the pros and cons? TIA to anyone who will pass along their experience(s). Hal

I would prefer the 16" tires, cause they are more performance oriented, but are a litle more costly and less characteristic of touring like tires. For 15" tires, use 225/60/15. I would recommend the Firestone Firehawk SH30 in the 15" size, cause they are smooth and great all-around preformers.

For 16", use 225/55/16, and I would use Yokohama Avid V4 for an All-season, touring like Tire with a performance side to it. Or something with more performance, the Dunlop SP Sport 5000

I'm confused ... there hasn't been a 280 produced for the states in any style since I think 1981 ... If I'm wrong please let me know ... I just don't remember a 1984

Luke, the 280SEL was available in Europe upto 1985. It must be a grey market import, or the member is overseas.

To Luke

It's a European Import converted to US Specs (grey-market).
