The rims come with an ofset of 20. that should be 20/25.4=0.787". almost the same as your 3/4 spacer. Have no idea what offset might have already been present in your new whells. Anyway. Thanks again. Lee

have you fit your tires to your SL?

Yes They Fit

I was finally able to get the car where I could try out the tires. They fit like a hand-in-a-glove. There is not a lot o "wiggle room" but short of a hard bottoming out there should be no problem. I'll get it out of the shop Monday or Tuesday and will get some pictures.
The wheel and tire combinations are as follows: Wheels, 8X18 with 20 offset. Tires: Front 235x40 18 Bridgestone Potenza S003. Rear 275x35 18 Bridgestone Potenza S003.
The wheel offset is critical. 20 refers to 20 Millimeters, approximately 0.8inches. With this offset, spacers are not required for this tire and rim combo.
Got to admit I am a happy camper. Thanks for all the responses. I was really worried and your comments and own experiences were appreciated. Thanks Lee

Yep, no spacers!!

FYI for all, the wheels are Mille Miglia 5x112 bolt pattern 8x18 with 20 offset. The sellers on Ebay advertised them with the tires as fitting any SL up to 2003. My concern was were they referring only to the 129 chassis or was the 107 included. Well, obviously the 107 was included.
Again, No Spacers Thanks Lee
