I want to purchase a set of used AMG Monoblock II's straight of an AMG C43 which is upsizing to 18"....
I am driving an E500 on which I have stock 16" (which I intend to keep for winters, as I am in Toronto Canada, and snow IS a factor Fronts are 7 1/2 x 17" ET 35 Rears are 8 1/2 x 17" ET 30 Will these fit? If so, what tires would you recommend? Toronto can be rainy even in the summer, but IS rainy in spring and also autumn... So I have been using 16" Pilot Sport XGT Z4s (in a staggered set-up on stock non-staggered wheels) and have been very pleased overall... I want to limit the ASR on dry roads, and I tend to drive very aggressively when the weather and roads permit Johnny Epstein Thanks for any advice!

Not Sure, but don't think 17x7.5 will clear E500 Brake Calipers
I wouldn't be to quick to purchase them yet, becuase last time I checked, the 17x7.5 didn't clear the Brake Calipers that are on the E500s.
Sorry, if you are looking for wheels, its basically a rule of thumb that any SL (r129) wheel will fit the E500. So you are probably going to want to look for E55 wheels, or any SL-class combo. Good Luck. http://www.800wheels.com/cart/Mercedes_SL500_Aluminum_Alloy_Wheels_and_Rims.htm There is a link of a company that sources wheels. For $229 each, they can get you 18x8 AMGs up front, and 18x9 in the Rear (and even have it painted to match the color of your car!!! all in that price) Or get the new 5-star SLK style rims in 18x8.5 up front, and 18x9.5 in the rear $229 each in the silver finish. As for tires, well if you do go with the 18" staggered setup, 245/40/18 up front, and 275/35/18 in the rear. If snow is a factor, you are basically out of luck. Even in 17" you would need a dedicated set of tires IMHO for snow, especailly on a beast like the E500. For rain though: I would use Dunlop SP Sport 9000 for $229 up front and $280 in the rear. Great in rain. If you need something that says all-season on it (even though I do think its best to keep your stock wheels and keep winter rubber on them) is get the Michelin Pilot XGT Z4s (since there tread design will handle better snow then the Yokohama AVS dB, but you pay more for them.) Just some options, since you don't have many to deal with in a high caliber car like that.

The rear wheel off the C43 will fit your car in the front or the rear. The front wheel from the C43 will not fit your car properly but, can actually be bolted on and would work. I would not recommend the 7.5" wheel for the front of your car. The load carrying capacity of the wheel and tire combo in the front does not meet your cars requirements.

Thanks for the info!
I am a little surprised by your comments regarding the brakes, Charlie? I am currently rolling on the stock 16" 8 holes which I would have imagined would have had even less clearance? Luke, when you say the 7.5's will be too narrow but will fit, would you recommend selling the fronts, putting the 8.5's on instead, and going with still broader rears? What would be the hazzard of using the 7.5's up front? Thanks! Johnny Epstein

Hey, I learned the hard way.
Well I have a 93 400E brake Upgrade done on my 190E. I badly wanted the 7-spoke SLK wheels in 16" on my car. The stock wheels on a 400E that clear the brake calipers were 15x6.5 with an ET of 41 I believe. So I figured that a 16x7, with an ET of 37 would clear. Guess what, It didn't.
I also know that a few E500 owners wanted the 17x7.5 EVOII wheels in the titanium finish, but wouldn't clear the caliper is what I was told, which is why the 17x8.25s are recommended for the E500. The stock wheels on a E500 are 16x8s form an SL-Class. And have an ET of 34, SO I assumed that a half inch less width, and an ET thats 3 mm less, would hit the caliper from all the other things I have heard. I guess its a wrong assumption. But Luke set it straight, I knew you shouldn't have the 17x7.5s for a reason, I guess thats why.

just my $0.02, but charlie's pretty much hit the nail on the head. the 500E uses R129 brakes and the calipers are pretty large. we've got evoII's on our 500's and i can tell you that regardless of which calipers are on the car, (early aluminum calipers - 500E spec - or later cast iron calipers - 600SL spec - ) there is far too little clearance for my liking...probably about 5mm or so.
don't forget, john, that just because the numbers say it will fit, it may not. given the sheer size of the brakes on a 500E, the profile of the inside of the rim becomes an issue. for example, i wanted to put the early clk alloy rims on my 16V. great. however, if i were to upgrage the brakes on that car to those off of a 500, the wheels would no longer fit even though the diameter is sufficient. the reason being that the cross-secion of the wheel, the shape of the design, curves back in too much to clear larger calipers. charlie is exactly right when he says that you should use the rims available for an sl class as a guide.
