what tires for the 300TD?

I need to get some tires for my 300TD wagon. I found some BF Goodrich Traction T/A's at Costco for a reasonable price. There is some question whether the load rating for these tires is correct for the 300TD.

Is there someone out there that is knowlegeable about these cars and the tire requirements. Is there a tire designation that I need to look for.

A low price in the purchase price of the tire is rarely rewarded with performance or longevity in terms of treadwear.

Buy one of the Michelins at Costco and it's unlikely you'll be disappointed if you plan on keeping the vehicle for five years.

Thank you Craig,

That information was exactly what I was looking for!!! From my Owner's Manual and the chart that you provided I now know that I need at leat a 90 rated tire. The BF Goodrich tires that I was looking at have that rating and a little better speed rating than I will need.

The price or brand of the tire should not be the reason to buy it. From the chart that you provided I can make an intellegent decision and purchase a tire that suits my needs.

Thnk you again,
Steve

.........until you and other forum members have BTDT on many cheaper tires and lesser brands and found they were all out of round and the treads gave up the ghost at 40K..............

Well said Brian. Ya get what ya pay for, no matter what you're buying.

Except I'm not much of a Michelin fan.

Cheers,

Michelan

Michelin makes a tire called HydroEdge..
i swear by them and have them on all 5 of my mb cars..
they have almost the traction of a snow tire and the abilty to wick off rain thru its tread patern, plus they have an 80,000 mile warranty

just one mans opinion

My 300D came with nearly new Bridgestone Potenza RE930's. No complaints so far. On the previous vehicle (Lincoln Town Car, another relatively heavy car with rather small tires) I ran Firestone Firehawk Indy 500's with excellent results. I plan to replace the Bridgestones with Indy 500's when the time comes.

I agree.......I've got a set on the '86 and they are excellent. But, you give up the H speed rating.........like I needed it anyway.

Pff Mich they shoe the rival F1 team Renult. When pigs fly is when I'll buy Mich tires.

Yokohama are great, as are Bridgestone! The RE950's look cool.

Yup. I like both equally well. Michelin is only a name anymore.

I have gotten more miles out of the Bridgestones than Yokohama although the Yokohama are a bit cheaper.

300TD Tires

OK Ok so that is how some of you are;

Brian, would you please read my 1st posting again. I was looking for the tire requirements. YOU replied with the manufacturer that YOU like. That is not good enough for me. I want to know what I am buying and why.

Jimmy, would you please read my 1st posting again. I was looking for tire requirements and Brian only gave me his opionion not the information that was requested. I WILL NOT spend my money on something simply because someone tells me too.

I live in a mountain community and deal with more than most do. I need a tire that performs well in black ice, snow, and hot dry asphalt. By the way I also live off os a dirt road and need to deal with mud in the spring and fall. Brian says just buy michelin because I say so and they will be good for 5 years, hey Brian I drive about 30,000 miles a year and I don't know of a tire that lasts 150,000 miles, if you know of one that does all of my needs and gets 150,000 miles I may consider buying it.

I have found that the GF Goodrich tires perform very well in snow, mud, and on the mountain roads. The itres that I am looking at have a 60,000 mile warrantee and are not inexpensive tires, just less expensive, there is a difference. By the way Brian and Jimmy, Michelin is making the BF Goodrich tires, do a google search and become educated and not opinionated!

I don't need to read it again. I gave you my opinion about purchasing cheap tires. BF Goodrich typically sells cheap tires to folks who don't know any better.

Buy what you want.
