W210 with vibration at spped
Hi,
My 2002 E320 experiences mild to moderate vibration at speeds in excess of 60 mph. The dealer claims that both left side wheels are "badly bent". Can the 17X8 OEM wheels be straightened? If not, where can I buy these wheels? If I have to buy them through the dealer, how much can I expect to pay? Thanks, Steve |

second opinion
Hi Steve I would get a second opinion on those wheels preferable froma tireshop.I bent alot of wheels myself due to over a Mil miles of driving and my experience is , when a wheel is bent it vibrate or humps on ANY speed.I would get the tires(the actual rubber) checked and the balancing first.

The 16" tire for my E320 costs $225 from the dealer. Right finish and with the security of the cast benz logo is definitely worth the premium. I would not buy used at any cost when it comes to wheels and tires. I think it makes sense that they are on the same side of the vehicle meaning they hit in succession. Dont reuse those old tires either, mount them with new rubber. I think it is a rule of thumb that if the wheel is damaged then your low profile tire will also be shot.

Hold up a second
Before you blame the wheels, check the control arm bushings, this is the exact same symptoms that you get from them.
I had the same vibration and changed the wheels. It didnt help until I replaced both control arm bushings.

Vibration update
Folks,
Thanks for your input, advice and support. As it turns out, the wheels were bent. McGeorge in Richmond VA replaced them and now my W210 is very smooth at any speed. Thanks, again, Steve 2002 W210 53,000 1997 Volvo 850 T5 255,000 1998 GMC Suburban POS 150,000 |
