Question W126 Tire Size?

I think i put the cart before the horse... but I just got a set of tires from my friend. he owns a tire shop and i gave him a set of 15" wheels from my 84 300SD and asked him to put tires on them... while i was driving the car on the stock wheels and tires.

I asked him to give me a little wider tire, and he did... but they look SO much bigger then my stock wheels i'm afraid they won't fit. I haven't got a chance to look into it yet, because he droped them off tonight after he got off work.

the stock tire size in the driver door jam reads 195/70/R14

My car is currently running 205/70/R14

My new tires are 225/60/R15

Is that to big?

Speedometer reading with stock tyre is now 3.6% too slow.
When your speedo reads 60mph, you'll actually be doing 62.1mph.

The ideal size is 225/55/15, which is the exact rolling diameter of the stock tyres.

Has 14 inch wheels with 195/70, would looking at 15 inchers, like the style, does anyone know if the 15's will bolt up? Have every intention of keeping aspect ratio.

Really, huh. Seems like more people would do that. If I find a decent set at Pick n Pull I'll grab em if they bolt right up to the 123 hubs. I can't stand cleaning the Bundts.

the bundts are a pain.

yeah, i am pretty sure the 15" from 126 will bolt right up to the 123. the late 126s have larger front brakes so wont accept the 14" wheels but it will work the other way around. you need the lug nuts though. the lugs for the 126 smooth wheels are over 3" long and are very odd looking things.

i have at least six of the wheels off the 350sdl factory. i sold it to brian with the after market 15" wheels that came on my sec. two of them are bent. i will eventually probably put them on the sec, but i have some 14" tires to wear out first.

actually at the rate i am accumulating miles i will probably get tired of the tires (no pun intended) before that happens.

Picked up a set of 15 inchers off a 190E. $20 each at the local P'N'P. They look in pretty good condition. Was able to get a couple of lug bolts as an example of what I need. Will search the "net" for the best price. When the tires wear out I'll put them on the 126. All four with tires mounted, fit in the trunk, two stacks of two, side by side between the wheel wells of said 126. Monster trunk. I put refinished bundts on the CD.

The 15"s of the 190 are not the same as the 15"s off of a 126, you need the rims of a 420 or 560, or 300, SE, SEL, or SDL.

Since you have already bought them let us know if they work...

For the 15" fifteen slot rims(420 SEL), I used long standard looking lugs and they seem to work just fine. maybe im missing something.

Thanks for the heads up. I just checked, you're right, they are 1/2 inch too close to the frame. I might be able to use spacers with proper length lug bolts, will look into it. Otherwise, I've got 30 days to get my money back.
