Tire recommendation for 123?

Should this be in Tires&Wheels? Maybe, but most of the 123 drivers are diesel guys so here should get more responses.....

I am getting ready to replace my 14" bundts with 15" 15 hole flat-face MB wheels on my '84 300D. I am looking for a recommendation on tires, not the size, the design/model.

I drive moderately fast and would like handling to be sharp not spongy. The optimum tire would be very quiet, long lasting and handle well. I have always gone for Michelin but the money they cost these days is a bit tough to swallow. Looking forward to hearing your responses. Thanks, RT

I agree with these guys

Review: Kumho 795 on W123

Search Larry Bible's posts for some long discussions on Kuhmo tires. I put these on my 240D last year (about 7,000 miles ago) and have been very happy. No snow, but plenty of good experience in rain. Roads here in Mexico are extra slick because of low quality asphalt and some hot sun. S rated, but I am driving a 240D

I believe each of these cars are the final production year for that model.

Thanks, was looking at the Yokohama Avid H4S as well as the Kumho 795 and KH16. How long do your Kumhos last? RT

My first set of Kuhmo's, so I don't know how long they will last. On the car around 20 months and less than 15K miles. Seem to be doing good so far. No vibration or unusual wear. Time will tell.

I got them from Tire Rack. At the time Luke suggested the Avid's to me so they are probably good also, and not much more if I remember right.

Good luck!

i have been using michelins off and on since around 1980. i have tried other brands but always have been happy with michelin.

my bro talked up bridgestones, so i put a set on one of my benzes. they were stunningly great til they had maybe 5 or 10 thou miles on them and then they started humming. unfortunately i liked them so much at first that i had in the mean time put a set on another benz. so soon they were humming too. drat.

back to michelin.

i have a set of either kumho or toyos on my wifes pt. but i got them free from my SIL who took them off his 911. they seem ok on dry but she says they are pretty slippery on wet. they look cool with a wider tire on back. (same height).

I'm with Tom W here. I have tried Toyos and Yokohamas and have typically wound back up with Michelins.

Im a Michelin man too. Havent found a better tire- well rounded; nice riding, long lasting, and perform well. I too am upgrading to 15" Bundts that I scored off of german ebay for my W123. I have been using Michelin MXV4 variants on all of my cars but am going to try the new Michelin Pilot Exalto A/S on the 15" wheels for the W123. Newer technology than the MXV4's, all season tread, and enhanced handling qualities. Depending on where you look, you can find them for around $90.00 each, maybe less.
