I'm thinking of purchasing a set of 255/40/17 Yokohama AVSs for my E500. The tires will be slipped on my Mercedes Factory Evolution rims size 18x8.25. I will also be lowering the car slightly. Will I have problems? Should I go 245s instead? I had a set of 235s and they looked a bit skinny before. Your help appreciated.

Typically, 8.5" is the smallest rim for an 255/40 tire. So your 8.25" rim is marginal. Personally I would go with 245/45-17 for your application. You did not mention which AVS you are going to get. I found the AVS Sport to be superb. Good luck.

Tommy, thanks for the reply. I just purchased a set of AVS Intermediates from tirerack at $105 each! What a deal. Once I've got everything mounted and balanced, I'll send you the photos. With 255s and 40/17 I think it should fit okay... let's keep our fingers crossed.

Any pics E500 man?

Glad to see you are in SF Bay Area. I have an E500 and met CY with his 500e last weekend in Alamo (close to Danville area East Bay).

Seems like we have quite a few 500e/e500 Mercedesshop people here: Scott Shell, you, myself, Cy, and a couple more in Berkeley?
Maybe we can do a get together in the SF Bay Area to see each other's cars?

Would like to see pics, can you post or send to via e-mail?

tks-fad

E500 man- - I'm definitely up for a 500e/e500 show. It would be neat to get together for a morning java/ breakfast to gather and gawk.

Did you talk to the guy whom had 18's? I met a Dentist from Sacramento that owns a Black Opal/Black full mods (incl engine) lowered with 18" 8-holes & S-03's residing in Sacramento, CA. Maybe the same person you saw.

We may even open an invite to all Mercedesshop /any MBZ folks that would like to be seen/ show/ or talk MBZ.

Suggestions? Post info on the Hot Rod Forum?

I scanned the Roll Call and it appears we have 500e/e500's in the SF Bay Area:

1) you
2) me (-fad), Fulgence in SF (Black Pearl/ Black)
3) CY, Robert- in Alamo, CA (Black Pearl/ Black)
4) run.exe, Scott Shell in the Silicon Valley (Brilliant Silver/ Beige)
5) revbound, John in Berkeley (Black Pearl/ Black)
6) EricH in Berkeley, (Black Pearl/ Grey)

Give us more info on yours: miles, colors, history, mods etc.

-fad

255/40-17 is a little smaller in diameter than the OE rubber....does that mean there's a large-ish fender gap? I'm quite certain they'll fit, but please advise how it looks. Best of luck with the new rubber!

Hey Fad,

So far my mods are purely cosmetic...

H&R lowering springs
S600 grille
17x8.5" Evolution Rims
255/40/17 AVS Intermediates
Hella Clear signals

So what's a good day for all of us in the '500'club to meet? How about this coming Saturday the 18th? Your suggestion?

Hmmm I think perhpas it's the same guy but this weekend I saw two more! One in Oakland and the other down Columbus street in SF!

I'm definitely in for this Sat. morning fun! the 18th.

Would you be willing to take the lead and post an invite to all N Cal Bay Area Mercedesshop 500e/e500 members? (your details) I'll gladly meet up anywhere (anytime from early am to early afternoon) from San Jose to SF to Marin to Danville to ????

Probably quite a few if not a majority of Bay Area Mercedesshop Members would like to see each other's and our collection of 500e/e500's, etc. too.

I've already sounded a warning shot over the crowd to one member in another post today..., but will give you honors to post the invite!

-fad
