What's the best rim/tire size for 90 300E ?

What is the general opinion as to what is the best upgrade/dress up rim/tire size combo for a Black over Grey '90 300E with stock suspension? I'm looking to improve the looks over the stock 15" rim/tire without sacrificing the ride too much.

Are you kidding me? Not a single opinion with all the nice, dressed up W124 E class pics I see on the other boards?

18X8 - 225/40 Sumitomos

Hey buddy,

I just picked a 1989 300 CE and just bought 18X8 wheels and 18 inch, 225/40 Sumitomo Tires. I received the tires but the wheels won't arrive for another week. Once I get them mounted, I'll give you a full report on comfort and ride. But I'll share with you what I know right now.

I selected the Sumitomos because a good friend who owns a 1990 SL 500 recommended them. He's tried a bunch of tires and said the Sumitomo gives the best combo of ride, comfort, quiet, wet traction, and performance. The tires were under $90 each on Tirerack.com.

I couldn't stomach ponying up the money for AMGs so I got some Replica AMG Monoblocks from Discount Tire Direct Online. Discounttiredirect.com has recommended sizes for cars and for the 300 CE, they suggest 15-19 inches. I selected 18s because I want my car to look like this: http://www.geocities.com/NapaValley/1269/pictures/mbz-rack-ls-small.jpg

This car is sitting on 18s and has been lowered a bit. I'm contemplating lowering springs but want to see what the wheels/tires look like before I buy them.

Hope this helps. Once I get the wheels/tires mounted, I'll update my picts and my comments!

on the fronts you want to stick to 18x8 with a 235 tire and the rears you can go up to 9 with a 255 max. You could put 19"ers on there too with the right low profile tire.

I went with 16 inch 205 55 16. Perfect look and feel. Same car, 90 300e Voxx rims with Yokohama tires
