Well, That's A Unique Wheel Treatment!

Y'all,

I've been looking for some of the aluminum steel-look wheels and hubcaps to replace the bundts on my white 300td (no, this ain't a solicitation -- I'm just tellin' a story), so when I saw a 300d in the yard today with white-painted hubcaps, I thought "Alright -- now I've got 'em!"

However, I scored only a 60% on the hubcaps, as there were only three there. Why 60% and not 75% for three out of four? Well, there are no clips on the hubcaps. What was actually on the car was bundts. Bundts and hubcaps -- huh? apparently the previous owner liked the hubcap look so much that when he/she/it came into possession of some bundts with tires, he/she/it removed the hubcap clips and zip-tied the hubcaps to the bundts! I guess one of 'em didn't hold on or fell off in the yard -- all I could find was those three.

So, I've got 3 out of 4 hubcaps with no clips (which I understand can be obtained new at the dealer). Oh well...

-Shawn

I was at Pull-A-Part in Norcross. Why wasn't I up there only a few miles from my house instead? Well, notification after the fact doesn't help me get there!

I'll give you a call and see if I can work it in with helping my grandmother prep a room for paint and obtaining a windshield for BMW #2.

I have 3 of the pale ones on my pale car, with an oddball white one to replace the missing pale one...trade ya if you have one.

On my way into town today, I saw a roadside farmer vending produce from a trailer hooked to a W123 240 or 300, kinda surprised he was even driving it, the front was mashed so hard it was pointed up, and had at least a 6" twist from left to right, the headlights were zip tied on and it had a black plastic wraparound molded bumper/valance rigged to it....different.....

Poor car......

I'll see what Winmutt brings me today -- it's a deal if I can get one of those pale ones for you.

I have a fetish for hubcaps since none of my cars need any.

Rattle can them, the paint probably turned yellow with age.

I seriously doubt they're age-yellowed. I've never seen white automotive paint turn yellow.

If I do have to paint any hubcap, I'd rather obtain a free one that's the wrong color instead of buying one I know I have to repaint.

I'll consider painting them if I can figure out a good masking technique. Frisk is probably what I'd use, as that allows for a nice, clean edge.
