tire recommendaions........'85 W123

The tires on my 85 300d have plenty of tread, but they are old and cheap (thanks to the PO) and have horrible traction in the wet. I need to replace them before I slide into someone and was wondering if anyone had recommendations for tires they are especially happy with. I don't mind spending money on good tires (hey my motorcycle tires cost $150 each and only last 4,000 miles), but I also wouldn't mind saving some money if the tires have good traction, especially wet.

Michelin or Pirelli. I had the BFG Touring with a treadwear warranty of 70,000 miles. They only lasted 35,000 with proper inflation and rotations.

BF Goodrich are essentially rebadged Michelins.

We just put them on the TD - Ask me how they are in a couple of years....

The weight range is less on the BFG, hence the faster wear. My BFG's lasted 1 3/4 years.

The best tires I've driven on any vehicle were Falken (Ziex?) AAA rated summer tires. They were so sticky that for the first few drives, road stones kept getting sprayed up. I had them on my '98 Acura 3.0 CL which would hyro-plane easily with the stock tires. With the summer tires I could drive at highway speeds with no trouble.

I personally like having 2 sets of wheels with mounted tires. One for summer and one for winter.

Around here, all season tires are fine, I've had good luck with Bridgstone's and Yokohama's.

Chad,
I'm in Atlanta, so not much need for winter tires here! Also, If you guys could post which specific model tire you are talking, not just the manufacturer, about that would be great.

I'm periously close to buying a set of Michelin Harmonys for my 240d....but I have no experience with them.....I've only ever had michelin's on trucks before - never this specific series.

Tirerack ratings are generally a pretty good indication of quality.

We have Michelin Pilot MXM4 tires on our TL. They get left on all year and perform great in all conditions.

I've got Yokohama YK520's on both MB's (replaced Dunlop Sport A2's which are now longer available) fro Discount Tire. They are reasonably priced (under $100 each for your car - I have 2254/60x15's on my two MB's and they are only $103 each), have a 60K warrantly and stick like glue in the wet - I commute on West Loop 820 and typically set the cruise control at 85. Even if it's pouring down raining, I still run along at 85 with no hydroplaning.

I did not see those listed in the 14's. I do not have 15's on the car, yet...

You two just convinced me.

Hey...a JoePa fan in Mechanicsburg with a 1981 240d parts car? You and I need to be friends.
