240D rims- Steel and alloy?

Yesterday while my stepdad was visiting and admiring my collection of Mercedes cars(1984 300TD, 1981 240D, 1983 240D, and a 1979 240TD parts car) we noticed something unusual. On both of the 240D's it appears that the rims are alloy on the middle part, and steel on the outer part. I had thought they were steel, but the middle is fairly thick(about 3/8 " ) and a magnet didn't stick to it, but the magnet will stick to the outer part. These are the rims that you put a hubcap over, not the "bundt" style. Anyone have any info about these wheels? Thanks-Scott

Those are the fairly rare and exquisite alloy wheels that take wheel covers. They provide a very delectible ride and handling for the 240d when equipped with suitable skinny tires as equipped from the factory.

They came in 82 and 83, IIRC.

The only drawback is if you curb them on snow they bend pretty easily.

Don`t know if you are interested in any of these aluminium 240 wheels. but I ran across 3 of them at our local PNP.

I noticed the other week that China has the alloy style wheels. However it is the whole wheel, not just the center section.....

Mine are all aluminum. They take the "wheel cover" clips that have the "roller".(not "hub caps" according to "MB speak")
