I have a 1988 190E 2.6 that has been lowered by 40mm and is currently running on 205/50/15 tires on a set of AMG replicas.
I know that this profile tire is incorrect as it should be 55 series.
I recently had new fenders fitted to my car and had to have the edges rolled up to clear the tires that exist, if I had the correct profile fitted the tire top edge would be just up inside the wheel arch where as at the moment there is a small gap.
I am looking to replace my wheels with 17 inch running 205/45/17 which will give me an almost identical (0.05inch larger) rolling radius to mercedes original spec 195/60/15.
Why do some use 215/40 or 45/17 wrong rolling radius?
What I'm worried about is are the tires going to clear the fenders, particularly when turning a corner.
Any advice would be gratefully received.
