Continental ContiTouring Contact CH95 Tire on 1989 300SE

For replacement thinking about changing from the original Michelin Energy MXV4 to the Continental. The Conti is almost half the price of the Michelin and offers comparable peformance statistically.

Has anyone had experience with the Continental? Will this tire change the handling charcteristics of the 300SE?

Thank you.

I have no experience on my car with other tires, but I do not find the contis to be great tires.

Cheap is more like it.

When I need new ones, I'm going with something a bit different.

When I was looking for tires, I was told that if I wanted to keep that MB ride, I should only buy Michelins, which I did (MXV4's). Glad I did. I replaced Pirelli P4000's (? can't remember). The car rode, handled, and felt as if it were standing at attention.

When I purchased my '94 wagon (used) from a dealer it had a set of new Conti's. A year and a half later, with 10k miles, two of them were separating and badly out of round. They also had alot of road noise. I replaced them with MXV4's, they are the only tires I use. I am more concerned about driving safe, than fast.

Conti CH95s

Don't, I repeat, don't get the Conti's.

I have a W126 420 SEL. I put new Contis on front and back last Spring.

What a mistake. First, they have virtually no wet traction. They hydroplane on barely slick roads.

Secondly, during hot weather, they develop flat spots from sitting for just a few hours. I suspect the sidewalls are made too weak.

They are relatively quiet and look good - but that's it. My friend, there is no free lunch.

I recently put on Michelin MX4 Rainforces. What a difference! Stays round, no unusual vibrations, and strides confidently through Miami tropical downpours. Great tire for wet climes!!!!

Stay away from Contis!. I had a pair of Supercontact on the back & they were noisy with extremely poor wear.I have a pair on the front which are wearing just as quickly (ECO)..cant wait to replace them with Goodyear NCT 5s

The Contis look good and are priced right but listen to almost every body on this forum and surveys on www.tirerack.com and you will see the same wear issues and being slick in the rain once wearing.

Do a search on the Yokohama AVS dB.
