35 mm. If you use 40 mm your going to have problems. But you can get a spacer to reduce the 40 mm offset to 35 mm.

If you lower your 190E you will have serious rubbing problems with a 17x8 (even if you cut out the inner fender lip) so be careful. You may even have rubbing problems without lowering your 190, its going to depend upon what tire you choose. 215/40/17 or a 205/40/17 would work and probably won't rub, but you would have a great deal of gap between your tire and fender. You you go with a 215/45/17 it will rub with a 17x8 and a 17x7.5 35 mm offset, be prepared to cut and/or flare your fender

(assuming you have a 8V 190E, the 16V have a fender flare already, but I am not sure how much additional clearance this would provide)
