It depends... Do you like cornering fast/hard on occasion? Anyone that drives your car who does? (a S/O with SCCA aspirations? j/k) It could be alignment related or the outside shoulder of the tire is taking more load from aggressive cornering. There is nothing wrong with cornering that way, just accelerated tire wear on the outside shoulder of the front tires is a side effect. Nothing a few good rotations can't fix.

Hoep this helps...Lee

The W-210 chassis has as unusual alignment procedure & only a few shops have the knowledge & required parts to do alignments. This model seems to drift to the right with-out a quality alignment. If the tires are wearing have the toe-in set to the lowest spec.
Take a look at the books that came with the car, almost all tire makers recommend tire rotation every 7500 miles.

I'm a former ASE Master tech with a '98 E430 Sport.

The car was just taken in for it's first ("A") Service at 12,000 mi. On delivery the car was perfectly aligned, no drift or pull and the steering wheel was perfectly centered. However, because the steering wheel in the dead ahead position became slightly offset to the right, I surmised that over time the springs had settled a bit, toeing the thing out, etc. I thus asked the dealer to do an alignment as part of the service.

When they delived it back to me, even though they claimed it was now "set to spec", it drifted to the right and the wheel was off to the left! I returned it and they claimed they had to adjust the other side to compensate for the drift. I assume they are being truthful, adjustments require installation of eccentric bolts for camber & caster and they charged me for them both times.

It is now somehat better, but the wheel is still off to the left a bit and it drifts right or left on our crowned roads (that's all we have here in the Northeast) and it doesn't track like it used to. Have you guys got any experience with this model that could give me some idea of ideal alignment settings for this car? Frankly, it was better before I let them fool with it!

Jerry

I am having the same problem with an E320. The car came with the wheel tilted to the right. They "fixed" it and it was skewed to the left. They "fixed" it again and it's exactly where it was before. I guess I will give up before they screw something up. Just because it's a dealer doesn't mean they know what they are doing. The service from the dealer where I bought the car is less than impressive, especially when the errors are from not paying attention to detail.

I wish I could find a local MB nondealer repair facility. My experience with them where I used to live is that the work is done by people who like MBs and not by people who do it because it pays better than working on Fords.

Hi guys
U have the same problems with me. I had asked the dealer to do the alignment. But after they did the alignment, it seemed like they did nothing but only charge me on the bill with the alignment job. The steer still pull to the right. I always go to this dealer in West Covina, Azusa (Penske MOtorcars) Los Angeles, but the service department its not as helpful and impressive as BMW or LExus. But I have no choice. IT is the nearest delaer ship.

All W210 chassis cars are somewhat different in alignment procedure than most other M.B.s.
The bolt kits can only change the settings by a couple of tenths of a degree. The rear toe-in must be adjusted correctly or the car won't track properly. As you has suggested not everyone can perform a "Quality" alignment. Any decent alignment shop (incl. dealers) should be able to get wheel straight. I would ask to have a copy of the alignment, incl. specs.
