1990 W124 rims fit a 1987 W 124?
Hi
Will OEM rims from a 1990 E300 fit (offset wise) on a 1987 300TD? Thanks for the help. |

Yes, on condition that you mean 1990 300E.

There are many different rims that will fit the early 124 cars.
On my 87, I have 16" rims from a 1999 E320. They fit fine, and now days, 16 inch tires are made with much more choices then 14 or 15 inchers. I was even told 17 inchers from a 211 will fit, but I never verified.

Thanks
It is a 1990 300E w/ 15" rims. I just found out last week that 1987 W126 rims have a different offset that my 1987 W124 300TD. Wasted trip to see them. |

are you trying to go wider and bigger??
Or are you just interested in a newer look of the 8 hole wheels? I'm in DFW and could make you a good deal on a set of 15" off my 1994 e420. M |

These are the...
undated 15 hole /slot wheels. These predate the 8 hole wheels, which came in in 1994 I believe.
I'd consider your wheels but the shipping would kill me shipped to Washington DC. |

The '87 wheel is a 15-hole / flat-face wheel which is ET49. The '90 wheel is a 15-hole / flat-face wheel which is ET48. Insignificant difference. The visible difference between the two is that the earlier wheel has radiused corners in the 15-holes, the '90-'93 wheel has sharper corners. The 8-hole wheel IIRC came 1 year earlier (92?) on the coupe than on the sedan & wagon, and the US 4matic never got the 8-hole (or the M104). The 8-hole wheel is ET44 which is also compatible, and necessary if you want to run the later 4-puck brakes.
I have a set of 5 '87 wheels in IN if you want them, ... cheap, another set in Michigan, closer to free. Don't want to ship though.

Thanks so much...that is some top notch information.
These are local. Really just want them so I can put my 4 Blizzaks on the old 15 holes which look pretty dated really. |

babymog, the 1992 300CE came with 15-hole wheels. The 8-hole wheels may have started with the 1993 coupe although I have never seen one. The 8-hole wheels were definitely on the 1994 and 1995 E-Class cars.

WRT to W124 only.... 1. Eight hole wheels were on the 400E (and maybe the 500E) from introduction (MY92 for 400E). Not standard across the line until 1994. 2. I've had trouble in the past fitting newer (cast) 15 hole wheels to my 87 300TD. They would rub on the front brakes. 3. For 15 hole wheels, the radiused holes indicate forged wheels, the more rectanglular holes are cast wheels. 4. Cast 15 hole wheels were fitted on W124 from at least 1989 on. Jim

Watch the outside diameter
I replaced the stock 15" wheels on my '87 300D Turbo (W124) with 10-spoke 16" wheels from an early (1996-99) W210 . Using a lower-profile tire (205/55-16) left the outside diameter within 0.5% of original so I don't have any speedo adjustments. The later wheels are more attractive IMHO and are easier to keep clean. The new tires (Michelin Primacy) work great.
8-spoke wheels would have been even better but I didn't find any locally when I went shopping. You tend to buy what's available, especially used stuff. Jeremy

How did the 210 rims work out?
I realize your post is now 6 years old, however I am thinking about buying a set 0f 210 16" rims for my 87 300 TD and wonder how yours worked out for you over the years?
Thanks, Al |
