I have a neighbor who got rid of his 97 C-230. He kept the rims and tires. Tires will fit, and I know we both have a 5 lug pattern - are there any reasons why they wouldn't fit on my 79 300D?

Lug pattern is correct. But the offset is not. I believe they are ET 37 or ET 42.

You'll need something like a 10-15mm spacer to make them work.

You will also need longer bolts. All said and done its not worth it. BTDT. Find some nice period correct bbs or replicas...

Are they 8-hole or 6-spoke sport style?

Just trying to understand if this isn't worth it because the parts are hard to come by, or if putting it together with the spacer and bolts is difficult? I can grab these brand new tires and rims for $300 - just want to make sure if I pass its for the right reasons.

I believe they are 8 hole style.

You will spend another 100 for the bolts and spacers, *IF* you are lucky. You will find most spacers will not fit, despite the advert. Basically the shims fit but none of the hubcentrics do until you gtet to like 15mm.
