I have been fielding a lot of questions about models of our beloved Mercedes Benz family so, here is the real skinny on tire fitment for the W107, W115, W116, and W123 and all of the other early models which came from the motherland with 14" wheels.

All of the cars outfitted with 14" wheels run a tire that isw approximately 25.5" in diameter and wheel which were either 14x6.0" or 14x6.5". They were also severely under-tired just as most other vintage vehicles.

Looking at current tire availability here's the sizes and diameters that are still available and will work in place of some of the discontinued sizes no longer found.

185-14 25.6
205/70-14 25.3
205/75-14 26.1
215/70-14 25.8

While the higher speed rated tires are no longer produced in these sizes you can find both "S" and "T" rated tires which are perfectly acceptable for all of the early Mercedes vehicles as newer technology found in todays tires is far superior to what was around in the 70s and 80s.

Are the 195/70R14 size tires going/gone away?

I do not see the 195/70-14 going away in the near future. There are still several touring and performance all-season tires being produced.

All of these tire manufacturers still make the tire size in question:

Michelin
Bridgestone
Goodyear
BF Goodrich
Pirelli
Sumitomo
Yokohama
Fuzion (made by Bridgestone)

Are 205-75R14 tires suitable for the W126 chassis? Thanks

205/75-14 is 26.1" tall and should not cause a problem for most W126 chassis cars providing there has been no degradation in the suspension components causing a change to the OE ride height

Just mounted my new tires (225/60-15) on to a set of bundts that were clanking around in the trunk for the last couple of months since I brought this 108 home... So what to do with the still-good 195/75-14s and steel hubcap 14s?

While the bundts were being worked on, I had the 14" tires dismounted from the steelies, and re-mounted on some 14" alloy/hubcap wheels to use as the "spare set".

That leaves me with 4 steel 14s...the "spare-spare set" eventually. I think I am going to get them powder coated in some color like orange or yellow (my 108 is Tobacco Brown), and a set of 195/75-14 BFG All Terrains put on, white letters out.

That should tweak the purists enough when they see them on the car. On second thoughts, the naked orange wheels and BFG A/T's will be the "car show set" LOL

I have on my 83 SD p205 70 14 fronts,and p215 70 14 snow tires on rear.Kinda help rear end,plus I cut hard rubber and wegded it under rear end mount
Gives it a muscle car look.
