Question will it fit? new rims/tires for 97 SL500

Hello,

I am new here, so I hope I'm not violating any custom.

I have a 97 SL500 with stock (non Sports Package) tires.

I want to replace those (just got the car, old rims dinged up, etc, etc...)

The Sports package setup spec'd for the car is as follows:

8X18 ET31 245/40ZR18
9x18 ET35 275/35ZR18

I haven't found any of those yet, but I did find some newer ones from a SL55:

Rims: 8.5x18 ET30 Mercedes Part # A230 401 20 02
Tires: Pirelli P Zero Rosso 255 40 18 95Y

Rims: 9.5x18 ET33 Mercedes Part # A230 401 21 02
Tires: Pirelli P Zero Rosso 285 35 18 95Y

I understand I will need lugs with a larger 'ball' since the bolts were thicker on the SL55, but other than that, will these fit without a lot of drama?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

--Mike

Thanks. They list a 225/45 tire for 18" rims and the owners manual clearly says the Sports package uses 245/40 front and 275/35 rear, so I'm not sure how reliable that info is.

Just to close this out, yes, the later rims fit the 97 SL500 just fine.

8.5x18 ET30 Mercedes Part # A230 401 20 02
9.5x18 ET33 Mercedes Part # A230 401 21 02

Fitted with Bridgestone RE760 tires (245/40ZR18 front, 275/35ZR18 rear)

You do have to use a M12 bolt with e R14 ball.

Thanks,
Mike

My 97 SL 320 with the sport package has:

Front
245 40 ZR18 8J X 18 H2 ET31 HWA 129 401 01 02 ( Hollander 560-65239 )

Rear
275 35 ZR18 9J X 18 H2 ET35 HWA 210 401 02 02 ( Hollander 560-65240 )

The 8" and 9" combo is also used on the late 90's E55, late 90's E320 used 8" front wheels all around

Near as I can tell, the SL sport package consists of different front / rear bumpers , different lower side trim and the 18" wheels.
