Michelin Defender

Any comments on the new Michelin Defenders?

Michelin Harmony is being discontinued. My local tire store is recommending that I wait until the Defenders become available in the size I need.

I have had great success with the Harmonys. I have them on 4 vehicles, with zero tire problems.

Should I get Harmonys before they are gone, or wait for the new ones?

I waited for the store to stock Defenders for my wife's SUV b/c they are just a tad more $ and claim to last 90,000miles! I may never have to buy tires again.

Seriously considering them on my w123...let me know if you try and like?

On her Highlander you could really feel them grab the road. No noticeable changes in mpg on her hybrid either (most thick treads take away from our mileage)

Michelin says the tire’s silica-based compound offers good all-season grip and stopping performance, while also providing low rolling resistance for higher efficiency and longer service.

This structure cutaway guarantees the 90,000-mile/6-year treadlife warranty.

FWIW......

Only a few reviews on Tire Rack so far. Mostly favorable reviews, but one pretty bad. All reviews so far are light SUV's or minivans. I guess not available yet in normal car sizes.

They replace the Harmony as I understand it.

Theoretically they should be newer and better and schmancier.

Products get replaced periodically.

we recently did a tire test which included the Michelin Defender and based on my experience with them on our test track in the wet I would tell you to buy the Harmony while you can ... was not impressed at all

That is a real shame. Why would they do this? I put Harmonys on a Yaris and they were amazing. Turned that little thing into a respectable driver. Very quiet as well. I sure hope they don't do the same with the Pilots, as my Benzes would be skrewed

they made a tire with better fuel economy but, sacrificed far too much wet grip to achieve the lower rolling resistance. I am not alone as all of my associates felt the same way about the Defender ... in the end I think it finished third out of the four in the test
