Getting Old=Softer Tires

Just bought a new set of tires for my 87 300D. I have used performance tires for the past 30 yrs or so. But this time I bought a set of Grand Touring tires. Michelin Primacy HP's. I wanted something quiet, softer ride with good wet traction. Never had this type of tire since the 70's.
All my internet reading, and info from forum members steered me to these tires.

It must be a sign of getting old.
