W123 14 inch bundts on a 124

What do I need to clear the calibers?

Will it even work?

I have a 91 TE I want to put them on.

You'll need at least 15" wheels. The clearance is very tight on the calipers.

Why do you want to put bundts on a W124?

Because I already own them with brand new tires on them.

Would wheel spacers work?

No, they won't clear the brakes.

Wheel spacers only adjust the wheel outwards/laterally. They will not solve your problem.

Your problem is you need a larger diameter wheel (14 is too small and will not clear the brakes, 15 is stock, 16 will definitely fit but this depends on offset).

BUMP for new question

I have a related question:

I somehow managed to hit a curb and flattened BOTH right tires on my TE. I have the w124 spare I can use... but the only other wheel I have around here is a 14" bundt.

I just need to get my TE home so I can deal with it, right now it's sitting in some shady neighborhood. Do you think the bundt with bolt up and clear the caliper in the right rear(smaller brakes) position? Just to get it home?

It might work, you can give it a shot. Usually the front discs are larger.

However, you'll need the correct lug bolts too. The original W124 bolts have a shank length of about 41mm if I remember correctly, while the W123 bundt wheel requires a shank length of around 29mm.

Can you just pump up the tires on the right side wheels w/ a portable pump? Or did they break the bead/rip open?

I'll take pics tomorrow.. but I basically shredded both tires and destroyed at least one of my CLK wheels.

Keeping my fingers crossed that the LCA is ok so I can drive home.

This is assuming you have the CLK "lightweights":

The CLK wheels use a 21mm shank length lug bolt. If you use the spare make sure you have the lug bolts mentioned earlier. If you use the bundts (if they fit w/o problems) make sure you have the correct bolts too.

If you have access to W123 steelies and confirm they fit, the lug bolts used on them are the same for the CLK lightweights (21mm shank length).

Crossing my fingers for ya.

I'm pretty sure I don't have any bundt lugs. I may have another 15 hole in the garage... would just need to get a tire on it. I use the steelie bolts for the lightweight CLK's. I also have a set from the rad(?) place, had to cut them down to fit in the rear. But I do have a set of lugs for the original 15 holes.. gotta ziplock with 5 of them with the spare

Also lost my depo headlight glass on the right

I had to avoid another driver at the last min... had to take the curb.

This is the first time in years since I've only had ONE car... I'm starting to rethink that position.
I use to keep a rusty SD behind the garage.. it would start first try every time. It was my backup for a long time. Then I decided it was in the way and got rid of it.

Thanks for the help

If you have one or more 15-hole flat-face wheel make sure they're the correct one for your 300TE.

There was one version made for a W126 with offset for the W126 (and W123). There are also 2 versions for the W124 in 15" size with a higher offset number (41mm IIRC), one with round holes and the other with square holes. Either one will fit, just make sure they're for a W124.

The version for the W126 has round holes, so it can get confusing. The W126 version may give you the same problems you might encounter with the bundt wheels.

Glad you're okay though.

It's bad, real bad..

No pics because I didn't actually get it towed home till just after night fall.

Front LCA, tierod(mine is bent into a U shape), sway bar stuff for the front. Perhaps more, I dunno.

The rear wheel is cambered in at the bottom, or out at the top , so much that the spare sits half on the sidewall and half on the tread. I have no idea what's all wrong back there, I only partially understand the multi-link rear.

And it won't start.. It was running when I "parked" it after the incident. I don't hear the fuel pumps prime, so maybe there is an inertia switch I dunno about.

If I could find something cheap to drive in the mean time I might.

Thanks for the help.
I'll start another thread when I need to actually start working on it... wonder how I'm getting to work this week
