W126 18" rim and tire info

I just got done mounting a staggered set of 18" rims. I got the rims form OE Wheels LLC. The wheels are well made as well. The fronts are 18x8.5 with et35 and the rears are 18x9.5 with et38. The front tires are 235/40R18 and the rears are 255/40R18. The fronts just fit without spacers. the rears I used H&R 20mm spacers. I know people say that spacers are bad but these are quality units for sure.

The reason for this post if to provide some info on this certain look of wheel and tire combo also to get some feedback. Personally I like the look and couldn't have turned out better in my opinion.

I hope this helps anyone with questions or thinking about putting wheels on of this size and offset.

TWO THUMBS UP

I like the look. Tell us the research you did to make sure everything was going to fit or if you just did it by "the seat of your pants".

Thanks for the compliments.:D Yes I did do research on the offset that the car can handle. Then I bought the wheels with front and back spacers. The fronts I got where 10mm, but the front spacer did not fit because the front wheel hub sticks to far. The max protrusion is 9mm because of the hub centric design. The backs worked out wonderfully. I dont think you can make the wheels fit better personally.

So the story here is that the max offset on the front is et35 and I wouldnt go bigger on the wheel since then there are clearance issues as you can see in the picture. As for recommending spacers, sure just get quality ones like H&R then there isnt an issue. Did a road test and the car handles like its on rails compared to the old wheel and tire combo.

If you would paint the fading plastic portion of your grill Black, everything would look good.

wow

I'm kinda picky, damn near never see any kind of aftermarket wheels that I think look worth a d*** on older Mercedes, but hey, I think these look pretty freakin' good! First set of "New" wheels I've seen that really look good on a W126. Really great choice.

Thanks:D I like simple wheels. nothing to fancy. I think it turned out great.

Would you be able to run the same tire/wheel set up on my 85 300d? I really like the look that you have on your car

That I could not tell ya since the wheel well dimensions are different. You need to figure offset and also a note is that you will have a hard time fitting wheel spacers on the front ( just about impossible thanks to the hub sticking out so far). Just take your time and measure twice and then once more.

sharp looking SD I like the blue and grey and pinstripe. My 83 300sd is solid gray from top to bottom. A liitle boring.
