"Run Flat" tire question
My wife's car has Continental ContiProContact SSR run flat tires. I drove the car tonight to dinner and upon getting out of the car, I noticed the left front tire was very low. Checked it, and it is flat from a cracked valve stem.
Now there is a possibility that this tire was driven around flat for miles. When I drove the car, I didn't noticed anything, even the way the car handled. So the question is, how long can you run on a flat- run flat tire before damaging it? After removing it at the restaurant parking lot, it appears to be fine. Thanks in advanced for the input. . |
Officially. Until you can get the tire serviced.
Unofficially. Just like a compact spare tire; 50 miles. Continued use with no air pressure can cause the tire to be damaged. |
Yes a new tire was needed per the local tire place.
Here is Continental's position on SSRs. http://www.continentaltire.com/www/download/tires_us_en/general/contiacademy/drivers_ed/tire_repair_en.pdf . |
