What is the best way to store tires to avoid dry rot?

I’m currently running P Zeros in 20” and want to go to 19”. I still want to keep my 20’s for play day or an emergency.

Any Indoor Location.....
 

.....whether your it's your garage, shed, or basement, that's dry & not in direct sunlight. Temperature is not that big of a deal as long as it's not next to obvious high heat sources. Did you have a specific place in mind you were unsure of?

Tires start to deteriorate from the minute they leave the mold. While you can protect them from some things, like sunlight for example, oxygenation isn't one of them (unless you're going to store them in a nitrogen chamber, in which case you are too wealthy to worry about such things).

Particularly if you are thinking of using them for track or play days, however you store them do not trust them when they hit four years from the date code. Personally I'd limit them to three given that kind of (ab)use. ;)

Thanks all for the info. These tire are already old, the previous owner had them installed four years ago. They look great, but know you got me :eek:
to do bonzai runs. Guess I'll have to wear them down quickly. :D

I also use tire products like armorall both sides of tires to prevent cracking

I know armor all is basically death for dashes so I would imagine its similar for tires.

Do NOT use Armour All on your tires. It prevents the emollients in the tire from doing their job.

Use Aerospace 303 or Vinylex.

well then the oldfashson tire dressing they sell at JCWhitney should work.

Many decades ago I worked as a gas station attendant and the owner of the station told me the best way to store tires is off the floor in a rack that keeps the tires upright. I also agree about the 303 spray. It is the best. No matter what the tires look like it is best to replace them after 4-5 years. I had a tread separation on a tire on my RV that still had excellent tread and no sidewall cracking, air pressure as recommended by the RV maker. I was lucky that the damage caused by the flapping tread was minimal, but I have seen some severe damage done by flapping tread.
