215/60/15's on 300 CE and TireRack Question

I like the looks of the 15x6.5 Sport Edition Fox 5 rim at TireRack.

(ince my 300CE is just a "work Car" 15 inch rims are fine for it). I'm assumming that the 15x6.5's listed under 300 CE on TireRack would have the same offset and would be proper for the car.

What is the widest tire I could run on the 6.5" rim and not cause an clearance problems on the 300CE?

I've got a set of 215/60/15's on another car and the width looks like it would really compliment the Benz if I could get that size on there with no problems.

Any input would be appreciated.

Brian

I think a 205/60/16 is the sportline size used ona 15x7 rim. Check the cars tab att he top for the info on the sportline.

Why not go with the ATP 8 holes or the Mille miglia bellos. Those look very good on the CE. or if going 15" You could look for some 15" AMG's if you can find them... Are the ones you saw the 5 star with twin spokes? I belive those are them. I did several collages of a CE with the different tirerack wheels a while back.. not sure if I still have them. I'll check for you.

Thanks for the tip

Thanks for the tip.

I just read the sportline "upgrade" article. You are correct, they did use the 205 tire on the sportline. I did also notice that at the bottom of the article, he does mention that the 215/60/15 would be a closer match to the original height of the 195/65/15 (Which is what I calculated).

I'm just not sure if the 215/60 would be "cutting it too close "clearance-wise". The back would appear to be fine, I guess I could just turn the wheels in the front all the way and take a measurement.

If you find that collage, I'd be interested in seeing it. I've been going back and forth between a 5-spoke rim and a 8-hole rim.

Brian,

Yes, the 215/60-15 will fit...I have seen this on an 88 300E....but IMO it doesn't look "right" on a 6.5 inch wheel. If you want the wider tire, look at the 7 inch wheel (7X15 or 7X16).

Thanks..

Thanks,

I'm looking at a set of 95 C-280 8 Holes which (I'm told) are 15x7's. From another post and from reading the archives, I see that it looks like the sportline used 205/60/15's with 15x7's.

I know what you mean..... a 215/60/15 on a 6.5" rim does have a "slightly stranger" appearance. I'd still like to get a 215 on the rear of the car on the 7" rim. I just need to verify that these are "actual C 280 8-holes and width" before I pick them up.

Thanks for the tips. Even though I keep looking at aftermarket rims, I just really like the look of the MB 8-hole rim. I just saw a 91 300CE the other day with the 8-holes and they just look good on the car. (In my opinion). I think that's the route I'll take.

Brian,

Here's a photo that allows you to see how flush the 15X7 sportlines look with 205/60-15 tires.....

215/60-15's fit the car perfectly .... and that tire size fits wheel widths from 6.0 to 7.5 and it is actually designed to fit best on a 6.5" wheel.

Thumbs up Thanks el presidente & Luke

Thanks for the Pic "el presidente" That's exactly what I "needed".

I agree Luke. I planned to put the 215's (at least on the rear) on my stock 6.5's after looking at the "reccomended rim size" for a 215 tire.

Would the 215 rub if used in the front? I was planning on leaving the 195's in the front if I had to.

Thanks for the help guys. All of these MB wheels and offsets were quite confusing to a "Jag guy" and American Car Bracket Racer.
