reproduction bundt rims from Maxilite Classic Wheels
 

My cousin in Zurich sent me info on new reproduction 15" bundt alloy wheels being sold by this Swiss company- Maxilite.
I have been shopping around for a set of 15" for my 83 280 SL.
The price is 140 euros each and that included taxes and shipping throughout Europe. They do not import or ship to the US.
It seems too good to me to be true.
My cousin has spoken to them for me ,but he is far from a technical person.
And he is certainly not a car enthusiast.
My question is- is there certain official safety and strength requirements and approvals that the rims would need obtain to be allowed to be sold to the public both in Europe and the US ? Like TUV and USDOT etc?
My cousin also says that he checked the German MB club forums are there is discussion of these wheels being made in China and not allowed to be sold in the US.
Any insight would be appreciated.

As a rule, I will not run wheels that don't either have TÜV or JWL/VIA approval. Wheels that comply will be marked as such.

If they are approved I am seriously considering buying a set of 15".
I was thinking of the later 560 SL 15" alloys. I like the clean look but they were not stock on an 83 280SL.

A Porsche friend of mine recently pointed these wheels out to me. I was going to post a thread about them but found this one.

Here's what Maxilite has to say about these Bundts and the TÜV:
"3 year warranty! The wheels carry a certifcate from German TÜV who is performing the toughest wheel tests in the world!"

Are you able to verify the certification from TUV?

I guess they could fake the certification. Here is their site. They seem to explain pretty clearly the process for certification. If they were fake I think it would be pretty big news after all these years.

How does that 11et offset relate to the wide range of cars that fit bundt wheels?

I know the early 90s multi-hole wheels that got fit on w124/126/201/107 at minimum had wide ranging widths and offsets. I’m not sure if the bunds were as varied.

I imported a set of 15” bundts a decade ago, and had them redone by California Chrome. But 16” Bundts would have all sorts of good uses.

When I get to that stage I plan on using 16x7 on the rear and 15x7 front and polishing the lips on the fronts to match for a staggered fitment. 16's look out of proportion on the front and with 15's in front I can use a taller sidewall for smoother ride and keep the same diameter. 16x8 will fit but it's very close and they look too big for the car. Hard part is finding matching tires in 225/55/16 and 205/65/15. ET11 fit perfectly on the 111 chassis. The front 15x7 ET23 might need spacers to put the wheel at the correct offset. This is all well in the future at this point but always planning. I like the idea of a correct appearing wheels that allows the use of modern sized tires.
