1999 clk wheels work on w123 cars ,what about 1999 c230s
The wealth of rims to seek for updating an older model mercedes w123 seems confining .The 99 clks are harder to find as of late so Im opening up my sources to include these if they work, a set of rims for the model 1995 c220 and up to 1999 c230,the rims look nice and do seem to have the apperance of the vintage of year .Has anyone gone this route on either a w123 or w126?

offsets have changed so much from the 80s.In the 70s everybody wanted centerline rims.Your bearing were center of the rim.Things changed because of front wheel drive, all rims now are positive of center for longer axles.Newer rims on the w123 or w126, will look funny like the trucks adapted to drive on railroad tracks.

I was hoping that the 1999 clk rims would be a good place to research from since its widely used on the w123 as a rim to go too.If a 1995 c220 and up to a 1999 c230 is similiar to the 99 clk rim I might strike gold so too speak.http://www.ebay.com/itm/MERCEDES-C-CLASS-FACTORY-OEM-ALLOY-WHEEL-RIM-15x7-1998-2000-/182281763163?hash=item2a70d6f95b:g:Lh4AAOSwLnBX2bar&vxp=mtr
The lite weight 1999 clk rims are 16 inch w/ 37 offset ,they get pretty close to the tie rods but clear ,these have the same offset but are 15s .I dont remember the width of a clk rims but these are 7" .Any luck that these will fit the w123s? Last edited by chasinthesun; 09-21-2016 at 08:08 PM. |

Ok, I did the purchase only to install on my 300sd which was in mad need for an updated look. They fit but just barely up frt.The rims would not fit on my 300cd ,not even close .The 300sd has alittle more room in this department ,their are a few setbacks although in fitment .What comes into play when installing IS EXACTLY what happens with the 16 inch 99 clk rims.#1 ,the frt rims will not let you wear the rim center cap due to fitment were the bearing cap is located ,2nd ,the rims lip on the inside rides so close to the tie rod end that even a tire weight for alignment has to come off. Oh well ,so much for the new shoes for the w123 .The w126 has gained a new set and was worth every dollar .After forking over $180 for the set I cant complain especially since 2 of the tires were brand new ,the others were in great shape.Seems like if your looking for a set of rims for your w126 you do have more options to look for in later generation rims vs the w123 models. Definitely something I'm interested in- more 123 wheel options. It's not like I want it to look like an Escalade, but the bundts are the ugliest stock wheel I've ever seen. Really a bizarre design. I'm not even that crazy about the CLK ones, since they look like they should be on an old Mustang, so it's six of one for me. You'd think the ridiculous prices on good bundts and the ridiculous prices on CLKs would create a booming trade-ya situation, but I guess not.
I think the numbers just need to be crunched on the width/offset/et cetera, but I doubt anyone on here is going to do that. Maybe I should dive into some math... -Rog |

CLK rims will fit except for the center cap which can be altered so that it does fit. The tie rods will also hit but there is a simple fix for that as well. I have a set of both the CLK and SLK rims which both fit my w123 wagon.

One thing I was toying with was the VW Heritage rims for a more classic look...
I got as far as starting to create a jig to mill out the center bores and I came very close to buying some but they were on the other side of the mountains and it just didn't work out. I like the look and the size and the fact that they're aluminum. I had also hoped the big hubcap would be able to cover the generous protuberance in the center of the hubs. One issue is that they're ET43. But they're 17", which seems like I've heard is close to clearing the tie rod, though I remember something like 18" to clear it fully? And of course I'd want a plain hubcap instead of a VW one. But the ones I was getting were so cheap I figured I'd work it out later. Anyway, just throwing that one out there. I come from the world of 4x108 wheels where everyone moans that there aren't enough choices. Boy, they need to be handed a w123 for a day and see how they like that. -Rog |

Hello, Has anyone ever worked out the idea of adding old benz hubcaps to CLK wheels?
Maybe using aircooled vw hubcap clips? Hubcap clip Hubcap clip kit |

looks good
That actually doesnt look bad on that car. I've been toying with the idea of getting better wheels & tires for my CD when the time comes that it needs a new set of tires. Currently the stock sized Pirellis on it have plenty of tread but are starting to get dry looking just from the climate i'm in.
So what size & width are those rims? How does your CD ride with those wheels & tires vs, the stock ones? I've heard handling is increased but unfortunately, so is ride harshness. Do your experiences confirm this, or no?

Now that is cool! Looks like the 50's small cap with the concurrent sedan trim ring, in 16" vice 13".

The wheels are 15". Don't recall the width but use a tire seller app for selection. The wrong width will interfere with steering/brake components. As a side benefit, 15" wheels offer a better selection of tires. Choices in 14" tires are limited. IRT handling and ride, as you know, the CD wheelbase is a little shorter than the sedans so so handling is a little crisper anyway. I noticed no difference when changing the wheels. I did however select the tire sidewall height to result in the same overall diameter as the stock setup so as to not introduce speedometer error. |
