Michael, I would install the 15-hole wheels ... provided the offset (ET) is the same or close. Also, check that 1) the diameter of the existing lug bolts is correct for the 15-hole wheels, 2) the thread engagement of the existing lug bolts will be the same with the 15-hole wheels, and 3) the lug bolt seat matches the lug hole seat of the 15-hole wheels.

Personally I think the 15 hole wheels look pretty bad and the offset is going to be higher than what you want so you will need spacers. I'd look for a set of the stamped alloys and hub caps.

I use 15in flat face wheels - same as shown in the updated foto- on my 1979 300TD with no spacers required. Just long bolts with a stainless cap on the end. Originally these were on "S" body cars. But beware there were some flat face wheels made for the 190 chassis that have different offsets and might not clear the calipers or worse.

I would never go back to 14in Bundts due to improved handling and better choice of tires.
And the flat faces are easy to wash off. I just wish mine weren't chromed!

Stick with the Bundts. They look much better

To clarify about the spacers. I don't know the specs on the 123 so I could be wrong but I know the gen1 107 and 126 that came with the bundits had very low offsets in the teens and the later 15 holes from the 124, 201, and 129 all had higher offsets and shared some suspension parts(sort of). I have 30mm spacers on a set of w201 16x6.5 pentas for my SLC for reference but that is so they fill out the finders after I rolled them for some wider wheels.

Is there an update for the 123 that uses a higher offset or do you maybe just have a bit of tuck dieseldiehard?

Look for a set of 15" flat faced 15 hole wheels from a W126, 86 and up for a W123.

The 86-87 were 7" wide, the later ones were 6.5" wide. Both had the low off set in the 20s vice the high 49s for the W124 wheels that appear identical from the outside.

On my '85 W126 I went with the "saucer" wheels as shown in the "after" picture.

The Bundt's are 14" and the saucers are 15". The later year wheels also offer the ability to use the larger W126 brake caliper set-up on the W123.

Never regretted it. No clearance problems and a greatly improved ride.

The Bundts look so much better in my opinion.

I favor the Bundts also.

The only problem with the bundts is the fact that they are 14" thus limiting your choice of tires. I changed mine to factory 8-holers at 15" mainly to have a greater tire choice.

Bundts or nothing.

For those who have not yet taken a moment to count, Bundts are also "15-hole wheels"!
