Exchanging Wheels From W140 to W126
 

I’ve never really ventured into swapping out wheels on my cars. I always knew I was safe to swap wheels among like chassis’, but I wanted to see if I could swap some nice w140 wheels to my w126 chassis? I have a nice set of stock wheels on a 1993 SD. The SD will be hauled off before long. I have a very nice ‘87 SDL that has terribly looking stock wheels that I don’t really want to invest the time and materials into cleaning and refurbishing them. What challenges will I encounter in swapping these wheels? Thanks in advance.

oilslick, with a loose wheel from each car check the ET number (offset in mm) to see how they compare. The best scenario is nearly identical numbers so there isn't an interference with brake calipers, suspension components or fenders. Also, compare the size, seat contour and thread projection of the lug bolts for each vehicle's wheels. If all the lug bolts match, then you can use the best lug bolts for mounting the 1993 SD wheels on the 1987 SDL.

Generally the later 129, 201, 124, and 140 era and newer cars have too high of offset to work with the older chassis. However I do know that the late 107 had a suspension redesign that allowed it to run wheels with a higher offset. You should research what the offset of both cars is.

Another thing to keep in mind is the 140 used 14mm lug bolts rather than 12. The hub bore is the same but technically you need different lug bolts with the 14mm ball dimensions on the 12mm lug bolt.

The W140 wheels are higher offset than even W201/124, so even if they do bolt on without interference they will not look good on the body.

Other issue is the bolts you will need to safely use them as mentioned above are expensive.

That said, you could use spacers if you're set on mounting them on the W126.

have you ever seen trucks that are made to run on railroad tracks? Thats what w140 wheels would look like on a older benz.Unless you buy 4 25mm or larger spaces,from ebay.de

I made a set of spacers to get w201 16x6.5 penta wheels to work on my C107. 30mm of glory and a 90mm wheel stud conversion kit. It does scrub some but fits well. Based on specs I really only needed about half that but go big or go home.

they are into spacers in europe,seen some 60mm. give the car that 70s muscle car look

I'm new here and still working on how to ask a question. If someone could help I'd appreciate it.
In the past I had a '95 S320, I ordered 4 dealer replacement wheels from a 2000 S420 and put them on my 320 and as I recall, no special applications were involved. Today I own a '97 S420 and have a chance to install some nice looking "like new" wheels from what was listed as a '99 to 2002 S420 but have been told from various sources they don't fit my car. I noticed a slight difference in the lug specs but wondering if they would work for me. Don't want to throw the money out the window if they don't work or aren't safe to use. Thanks for any help.

I'm hoping to get 15mm spacers for my car.I like having wheels out further,for corners

I have w140 wheels with snow tires on my w203. The w140 wheels use tapered bolts instead of ball seat. Other than that they work very well. Even clean my 316mm 4 pots without the need for spacers.

I have hankook z rated snows on the back,running my old 16s on the front,I have abs,and asr bypassed.Hate that crap anyways

You should call up your insurance company and let them know about your "bypass". I bet they'll lower your insurance rate.

naw only carry liability,i learned to drive without abs,I can't slam and hold them. ASR is awful in snow,sometimes you need to spin.
