After some thought, I also decided to consider the following combination for my 1988 Mercedes-Benz 260E:
WHEELS: 17" x 7.5J MB EVO II (Polished) TIRES: Michelin Pilot Sport 215/45YR17 This is opposed to my original thought: WHEELS: 15" x 7J MB 8-hole Sportline (Polished) TIRES: Michelin Pilot SX-GT 205/60VR15 Thoughts? Suggestions? Daniel [This message has been edited by DSinger (edited 05-22-2000).] |
Daniel:
I think you will be pleasantly surprised as to the outstanding handling the 17" rims and 45-series tires will have to offer. I originally had 17" AMG rims with 215/45ZR-17 tires on my 1986 2.3-16V. I've since changed to 16" AMG rims (painted Pearl Black to match) with 215/50VR-16 tires. I tell ya, as soon as my wife forgets how much I paid for the painted rims, I'm going to switch back to 17" (not my original AMGs tho' -- they are chrome and I don't like chrome). In summary, I feel you've made a WISE decision to go with the 17-inchers. Brian |

Am I the only one who remembers reading a recent Star article about the SLK being offered with 17" EVOII's in the semi-near future. Since the R172 (SLK) uses many W202 (current C-class) parts the offset should be pretty close.
Just an idea....Lee |
The 2000 SLK Limited has EVOII's.
