Mercedes is telling me that these tyres were due to bad alignment

https://imgur.com/a/0pya3Lk

All 4 are worn, and as you can see in the picture, at least one of them is really screwed.

My car is regularly serviced by Mercedes Benz, so even if alignment was an issue, they should have caught it. The car is only a year old, so it's only serviced by Mercedes Benz.

Am I being ripped off?

UPDATE: mobdro kodi

I called Michelin and they are now working with the dealer. I'll know more later today and will update again. Thanks guys!

looks like they were cut on a fender.

Unless you were in an accident and bent the suspension, they should not look like that.

How are they "ripping you off?"

The tire in the picture isn’t worn, it’s damaged. Post some pic’s of the other tires.

But he said all four were that way. Something is missing. Does not make sense. Were all four tires rotated to the same wheel so all wore that way over time or were scraped by the same fender over time?

That looks like it was caused by excessive negative camber in your alignment; my 2006 E320CDI (W211) exhibited the same tyre wear pattern on all four corners after I lowered it 40mm using aftermarket springs. The photo shows the wheel still on the car and the cording is on the inner shoulder, so this clearly isn't fender rubbing/wear or kerb impact damage.

There is no provision for camber adjustment in the stock suspension configuration on the newer cars, so my solution was to go to the aftermarket and install adjustable lower control arm bushings (from K-Mac out of Australia). The alignment shop was then able to get the rear settings within specifications, but the front are still off by a few tenths of a degree so I'll have to be diligent with rotating my tires to even out the wear.

A new car with a stock suspension in good condition shouldn't do this; some component in your suspension has either been changed from original factory specifications or is damaged/bent. A dealer doesn't check alignment readings as a routine matter of course during ordinary service visits - the customer would have to complain of a problem that the dealer would then investigate, so no, you are not being ripped off.

Please let us know what year/model car you have and what Michelin has found in their working with the dealer.

Best Regards,
Rob

Looks like alignment wear to me.

Accelerated wear on just one side of the tire is usually related to the suspension, typically it's the alignment.

I'm not sure what the problem is.

And no it's not a tire defect.
