78 300CD: Leaking Metal Valve Stem
Hi people, I normally would just take this to a tire shop, but seeing as how I have spent 10 hours recently cleaning and painting the aluminum wheels on the 300CD, I really don't want them to bugger them up (which from experience, will happen). Because of this, I want to pop the outer bead and replace it myself. MB replacements run 70 bucks a stem, which seems a little outrageous.
There are aftermarket stems out there, that will work I'm sure. Since this is not a show car, does anyone have a recommendation of a brand/style that they know works on the 300 series aluminum wheels? Please help. |

Measure the length of the stem and diameter of the hole and go to Dill air systems site to size the correct valve. Just bought 4 on ebay for $12 made in USA.
Good luck!!!

Yes and save the service station charge. I just got charged $50 to put a plug in a tire that picked up a small nail. When I questioned them, they said that was just the charge nowadays.
I was outraged. |

$50 to plug a flat...was it fixed to industry standards? Was the tire removed, patched on the inside using a patch that additionally plugs the hole?
$50 nowadays; but, never again...tell two friends.
