Recommended tires to -88 SL 560 on 16" rims

Hi R107 friends,

I consider to buy 16*7,5 ET25 (front) and 16*9 ET20 (rear), but have a hard time finding tires which will match as good as possible with the original 205/65-15 diameter.
Anyone with experience from this?
Maybe a different rim set up will work for me as well.

Thanks

Rgds Erik

Hi there!

Your setup with the 167.5 ET25 in the front and 169 ET20 in the rear sounds great and should give the car a more aggressive stance while staying tasteful. To maintain a diameter close to the original 205/65-15, you might want to look into 225/55-16 for the front and 245/50-16 for the rear. These sizes should provide a good balance without throwing off your speedometer significantly, though I’d recommend double-checking clearances, especially on the rear arches.

If you’re struggling to find the right tire sizes locally, online marketplaces can be a great resource. I’ve previously used jiji.ng to track down hard-to-find sizes for a similar situation, and it was a lifesaver. It might be worth exploring similar options depending on your location.

Let us know what you decide and how the setup works out for your 560SL—it sounds like a fantastic project!
