Recommended tires to -88 SL 560 on 16" rims
Hi R107 friends,
I consider to buy 16*7,5 ET25 (front) and 16*9 ET20 (rear), but have a hard time finding tires which will match as good as possible with the original 205/65-15 diameter. Anyone with experience from this? Maybe a different rim set up will work for me as well. Thanks Rgds Erik |

Hi there!
Your setup with the 167.5 ET25 in the front and 169 ET20 in the rear sounds great and should give the car a more aggressive stance while staying tasteful. To maintain a diameter close to the original 205/65-15, you might want to look into 225/55-16 for the front and 245/50-16 for the rear. These sizes should provide a good balance without throwing off your speedometer significantly, though I’d recommend double-checking clearances, especially on the rear arches. If you’re struggling to find the right tire sizes locally, online marketplaces can be a great resource. I’ve previously used jiji.ng to track down hard-to-find sizes for a similar situation, and it was a lifesaver. It might be worth exploring similar options depending on your location. Let us know what you decide and how the setup works out for your 560SL—it sounds like a fantastic project! |
