1991 SL500 to 1991 420SEL wheel swap?

I'm thinking about buying a set of 17" wheels from a friend's SL500 for my 1991 420 SEL (15"). Are there going to be compatibility issues with offset and bolt diameter? Will I need a spacer?

To make it work you would need spacers but, I would not recommend the use of spacers.

Would the use of 10MM H&R Spacers and longer bolts be that bad? Are spacers a safety issue?
Thanks,
Dan
