I am in a position to get 18x8" AMG wheels for my 190E. Question is, I have my fenders rolled, and no suspension mods yet, do u think they will fit, and will they be overkill or not. I was thinking 225/35/18s with them. I relly aprreciate your advice.

I think they are serious overkill. I wouldn't go larger than 17 on a W201.

I wouldn't go with 18" wheels on your 190E. We only list up to 17" wheels for that model. I would be happy to get you whatever you want and if you are determined to get 18's I will work with you to get the best wheels for your car.

8" too wide in front unless you are a pimp or drug dealer, ok for the rear but 7.5" will give you a great stance with no need to roll the fenders unless you are seriuosly lowered. My old 190E 2.6 had the 8" rims on them for about 10 feet then i turned the wheel and it all rubbed on the inner parts of the fender well.

Here is some information for you to consider.
Both the TireRack and Discount Tire offer 17x8 wheels for the 190e (Discount has 18x8's). Now, assuming a 35 mm offset for both the 17x8 and 18x8, if you use the recommended tire size for the 17 (215/45/17), you have 24.5 for height and 8.7 for width. If you go with a 18x8 with the recommended tire size (225/40/18) you end up with a 25.1 height and a 9.1 width. So the 18" wheel on the 190 would be about .5" higher and .4" wider. AMG does not offer the correct offset in a 18" for the 190E. AMG only offers a 17x7.5" in the correct offset, these will not rub on the inner fender well if you use the recommended tire size. Bekkers has a very nice Italian made AMG Monoblock II copy available in 18x8 35 mm offset, you might want to visit their web page and get in contact with them http://www.bekkers.com/index.html You can also call up your local Discount Tire, they have several other style of wheels available in a 18x8 35 mm offset, but not many. -- I did a bit more research on this topic and found that if you elected to go with a 225/35/18, your width would be 8.9 and height would be 24.3" That is .2" shorter than the 215/45/17 and .2" wider. Looks like that is a very close match. Bekkers also states that the 18x8 AMG monoblock they sell MIGHT rub if using the 225/40/18, although my other sources say it wont. Most likely it would depend upon how much negative camber you run. Bekkers has confirmed that the 17x8 with 215/45/17 tires will not rub against the fender lip. But if you already have your lips rolled, then this particular issue is of no concern. Good luck Rik [Edited by 2phast on 07-11-2001 at 07:34 PM] |
