Is there any point in getting summer tires for 1985 300D?
I have an extra set of OE alloy wheels that will fit my 1985 300D. I was thinking that it would be nice to have a set of summer tires and a set of winter tires. I spent some time searching on this site and the Tire Rack site, but could not figure out whether there is any advantage to having summer tires for this car.
Larry Bible's comments lead me to believe that I should just get a set of Michelin's and use them year round, but I thought I would ask the question. I put a set of Bridgestone Pole Position tires on my wife's Subaru Impreza, along with a Prodrive suspension kit, and the car was just transformed. Pole Positions are like banana peels on snow, so I go from November to March on a set of all season tires. It was a real treat this spring going back to the Pole Positions. I understand that the 300D will never handle like the Impreza, but I have this nice set of alloys collecting dust and would like to get the best tires I can for the 300D. By the way, an Impreza with good tires and a suspension kit is one of the nicest cars you will ever drive. |

I don't think you need the all out performance of the S-03 but, a good summer tire will make the car handle better and get better wet traction than an all-season tire ... a few I like that would be good on your car are:
